Ok - so we are a little late getting this in the paper (it has been 12 weeks, but this is a little bitty town - better late than never). We will get it in this week!

So help word these things for the form the newspaper gave me:
1) Bride given in marriage by whom? .... No one - she walked halfway down the aisle and the groom walked up halfway and they walked back down together. It was romantic - so do we say . . .

The bride entered the sanctuary unescorted and was met midway by the groom. The couple walked arm-in-arm to the altar. Do you have a better wording? If so, please chime in!!!!

2) Description of bride's gown and headpiece -
The bride wore a white satin strapless A-line gown with a beaded and embroidered bodice and a beaded and embroidered split chapel train. Her head was adorned with a fingertip veil of bridal illusion.

3) Bridesmaids dresses - tea-length gowns of pool blue satin - sound okay????

4) "Guest register was attended by Mr. and Mrs. XXXX. B*** and J**** M****, cousins of the groom, distributed bird seed to the guests prior to the couple departing the church in a limousine. (Just feel like I should stick them in there since they did do this and they are the ONLY maternal cousins of the groom and the paternal cousins are already listed as wedding attendants). Does this sound stupid? Remember this is a little town and our newspaper only comes out 3x per week!!!! Not much news!!

This is the happy bride and groom and the photo that I think will go in the paper. Of course, it's a little dark, but much better and lighter when it's actually developed and it will be in black and white in the paper. Not the traditional bride only picture, but I think they look radiant.

I have to ask - did you get married in a church in VA? I have picture just like yours from my wedding.

Oh - and I really can't help with the words...we don't get into that level of details in our paper. Wow!

if no one gave you away (this would typically be the family of the bride) then I would omit the sentence altogether.

second sentence:
The bride was presented in a white satin gown embellished by a beaded and embroidered bodice and embroidered split chapel train. Her head was adorned with a fingertip veil of bridal illusion. (what is bridal illusion, btw?)

bridesmaids are good

I think if you feel that your cousins should be included, by all means do so!

How about "the bride joined the groom at the alter". Or "the happy couple met at the alter". I know it isn't exactly right, but it's a little shorter.

How about...

1. The Bride walked down the aisle and was met midway.....

(leave out anything negative)

2. I'm not sure what a bridal illusion is--but the rest of the description sounds fine to me.

3. Can you say maybe carribean blue....? pool blue sounds kind of nothing special. I think that is how you describe the crystal blue waters of the carribean which is about the color of pool water.

4. I would omit the bird seed. I have never heard the distributors of bird seed mentioned in an announcement before. But if you must include that....

B & G were showered with birdseed distributed by the Brides cousins, Huey Duey and Louie.

omit the limosine (JMHO).

BuzzBoyMom - no - the wedding wasn't in VA! It was in SC. Maybe these churches had the same architect!

I am the groom's mother (now MIL to the bride) and she has directed me to get this together. Of course, it will not get submitted until she approves it.

Princess Mindy and Lisa Loves Pooh - bridal illusion - that's the net stuff veils are made of. Who would have guessed? Pool blue was the actual color of the bridesmaids dresses - that's where that came from - David's Bridal. It is a lot prettier than it sounds.

I will leave out the part of who gave the bride away. Because no one did.

I will leave out the limo - it sounds pretentious. The bird seed distributors - I've never seen them in an announcement either - but I just hated to leave them out since they were involved and they would be the only people left out. The grrom is an only child with only two maternal cousins. They were too old to be flower girls and really too young to be bridesmaids. So they ended up being bird seed distributors. :rotfl2: It even cracks me up to read it. They sound like salesmen of bird seed.
I do appreciate your input. Like I said - it's a small town and nearly everyone has a write-up like this. Even weirder - this town is so nutty they even read the obituaries on the radio every day at 11:55 a.m. :rotfl: If no one is dead, they just read a Bible verse.
