I am trying to do two things. I am trying to figure out how to make a name over a picture. Example Penny over a picture of the fairies & you can still see the fairies. Also, How do I do a picture of Jiminy Cricket silhouette over a picture of the castle for example. I know I could post here and ask someone to make it for me as I have seen both of them. But I would like to do it myself? Would someone mind emailing my instructions
chaoscent@verizon.net
or sending me in the right direction? I have photo shop and Photo Impact Pro & also Pnotoshop elements (and I will buy any program you recommend).
Thanks so very much, :worship: :worship: :worship: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:
I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Penny

Penny,
It's very easy to do once you know how. (Like everything in life, eh?):rotfl:

Here is a link that I found to be helpful. I think it was originally posted by Maria. It tells how to place photos within text but the same could also be done with a shape or silhouette. Hope it helps. This is for photoshop elements.

Well I printed the instructions. I am home sick today and not feeling well so I am going to wait until tomorrow to attempt it. I just realized I only have PhotoShop 2. I decided I am buying 6. My hubby can use it for his photos and I can use it for my t shirts. :lmao:
So I am off to bed now & I will try this tomorrow.
:thanks: :thanks: :worship: :thanks: :thanks: :dancer: party:
I appreciate it. :goodvibes Penny

Penny, I did mine with Photoshop Elements. I created a mask by placing blue letters over a white background. I duplicated the letters and used either the medium outline or large outline effect on one of them making sure I had black (in this example it can be any color but blue) selected for the outline. I then flattened the image (layer menu) and used the magic eraser to turn the inside of each letter transparent. Then it's a relatively simple matter of placing the artwork behind the mask.

When you have everything the way you want flatten the image and turn the outside (should be white) transparent and save it as a gif.

Feel free to contact me if you any questions about it. I can even send you a file so you can see how I did it.

Well I did it following Kari's directions. I used photshop elements 2.0. I didn't outline it or use fancy colors as I just wanted to see if it worked. I could play around with it but realized I didn't have anything as a base that I wanted to use. I just wanted to know how to do it because you never know when I might want to do it. :lmao:

Dom - I am going to try your directions also. I will let you know how I make out. First I need to figure out what flatten means. :confused3
thanks again. Penny

As a 3rd way to do it (in Photoshop Elements)...
Open your background file
Then click on the "T" for text, once you do this, across the top where you can choose fonts 4 different types of "T's" will come up. Click on the one that looks dotted. Type whatever you want (look behind the text to make sure what part of the image you're getting). Then click in some of the blank area. Then go to edit, copy and then paste it into a new file and then you're done

Oh, and good job on the one you made! :)

I'm interested as well and have PhotoImpact. Does anybody know how to do it with this?

Penny, Great job:thumbsup2 . See, with instructions you can do anything!

CarolineGirl, Thanks for this tip. I think I'll try it!

Until someone else responds you could try googling "photoimpact tutorial picture in text" or something like that.

Dom13, Thanks for these instructions too. So many different ways to get the same effect.

Thanks everyone. I decided to hold off trying Dom's suggestion as I am buying Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 with Bonus OnOne Essential 2 Software for $79.99 at Costco's. Dom - thanks, I was reading the Photoshop 2 book that I have and it talked about flattening :confused3 so I am assuming there is hope for me yet. :lmao: This is fun learning new stuff, but hard. Carolina Girl, thanks for the Word advice. I will try that this weekend too. I am home sick this week and on many meds  . I think I will wait until my head clears a little before I attempt something else. :rolleyes1
thanks again everyone, :goodvibes Penny

Penny, looks like you're off to a great start!! Kari, thanks for the compliments. I saw the ones others had done on this board and just figured this was how they were done. Not sure if the technique in the tutorial would work with things like my logo below as it has ALOT of layers. Each character's a separate layer. Makes it easier to get each character in just the right place.

Yes, it does work. I have some of mine where each character is on it's own layer and all you do is ALT click on each layer you want inside. And you can still move each character around easily. I hope this helped.

A couple of tips....

• Save your files as jpgs or psd files. gifs are for web only.

• Also always use CMYK and not RGB.

• When designing, design at 300dpi. the higher your dpi the clear and brigher your images will be. :) So you may want to check your resolution with any clipart that you may find on the internet. If it's 72 dpi but a really large image like 10" x 10", you can reduce it so the dpi is then larger. 150 dpi is ok but the best is 300 dpi. Just something to keep in mind. ;)

One place that I go for any questions I need answered or tips is the Adobe website. They have free tutorials and a forum.

Good luck! And have fun!!!! There are so many cool things you can do in Photoshop.

:cheer2:

I am glad to see someone post this question. I have seen it before but by the time I get around to trying it I cannot find the instructions. I am going to try it this weekend.

You guys are so creative and knowledgeable. Maybe you teach a class and just maybe it could be in WDW where the atmosphere is so conducive to learning.

Thanks again

Well I did it. I bought Photoshop Elements 6. Watch out Dom13, I am going to learn all about Flattening and Layers & I will just be the brightest bunny in the patch. :lmao:
Seriously, Thanks everyone for your help.
Dom, I love my avitar and my Figment Pin Circle.
I am going to play with Layers this weekend as I am going to make invites for my nieces for dinner at Cinderella's castle in Feb.
I will post when I finish it. Thanks for the support, inspiration and advice. It is greatly appreciated.
Penny

Anybody know if it's possible to create letters with pictures inside using DrawPlus? I think that's the drawing program that came with my computer. I tried to create some names, but I was completely flummoxed!:scared:

OK, here's another question: would the instructions on how to make these letters be the same for Photoshop CS2 as it is for Photoshop Elements? I'm determined to learn how to do this! I can do these letters using Power Point, but it isn't as maneuverable.

Anyone know about Paint Shop Pro X please?
I'm trying to create the image within text design and I'm getting so far with a few tutorials I've found but I'm coming unstuck when it says 'click the magic wand' .. I don't have one or not that I can find anyway! :confused3

Any help at all would be very gratefully received.

Bats

Found the magic wand but can't get it to crop the image now. Somebody please help me or this laptop is going out the third floor window!!

Thanks

I use PSP 8, but it should be the same. If you have the lettering selected, w/the magic wand, go to selections, invert. Then go to the layer that your picture is on, not the text. If it's still a "background" under layers, convert it to a raster layer. Then click delete. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask ;)
