Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on this board...usually I'm on the cruise line board. As you can see I don't post much but I have been a DIS member for a long time. My DW and I will be on the Magic in August for the five night cruise to Canada. This will be our eighth Disney cruise and our first on the Magic. We've done cruises before where we have paid cash and cruises that we have used our points. What we would like to do with this cruise is pay half with points and the other half with cash. I know this sounds strange but I want to save some of our points for when my son graduates college so I can use the points to give him a week in Disney as part of his graduation gift.
Has anyone paid for their cruise using points and cash? I know I can ask DVC but I just got home from work and it's after 5 PM and DVC is closed for the day. When I do speak with them I would like to have a little knowledge of what to expect.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Have an ICE day...

It probably won't work out to be exactly half & half. You have to pay per person with all one or the other. You can't split one person half points & half cash. It's one or the other. So if you want to use points for you and your DW and pay cash for your DS then you'd need to figure up how many points you need for your date & cabin category for 2 people. Then when you call to make the ressie they will give you a cash price for your DS and you will have to pay it all up front along with the $95 exchange fee. It will be a fixed price and will likely be slightly higher than what DCL would charge if you were booking cash directly with them. They do not give you the luxury of just paying a deposit for the cash portion and paying the balance off later like when you book with DCL. If you find that you don't want to spend as many points for 2 people as what it comes to then you can pay for 1 person with points then you'll have to pay for the others with cash (up front). Follow that?? :goodvibes
