I have a 4 year old, almost 4 and a half with an overactive bladder. It is fairly common at her age and she will most likely outgrow it. This does not help when our cruise is a little over 30 days away and when I booked the cruise 18 months ago I did not think this would still be a problem. She either has to "go" at least twice an hour or else she is damp/wet all day. Sometimes she is damp/wet even if she does go that often. With proper motivation, she can stay dry, but when involved in activities, the motivation doesn't help as much. I plan to check on her hourly and make her go or take her out if she is wet and change her (usually within an hour she is just "damp" and no one would probably even notice as she wears the thick training pants and it doesn't make it to the outside of her clothing. My question is how hard is the club on "accidents"? Is it one strike and your out? We don't plan on having her "live" in the club or anything, but she will want to go as often as her older sibling and I am worried she will get "kicked out" the first day and feel like she is being punished. For this reason, we are not doing any spa, palo, excursions, etc. Anyone else have issues with newly trained kiddos that can help me out? I'm very depressed and at this point wish I would have just cancelled the cruise a few months ago. I do have a phone appointment tomorrow with her doctor to see it there are medications for kids. I think she is still a little young for it.

We brought our DD to the OC when she was 2 1/2. She had been trained for about 6 months and hadn't had an accident for atleast 4 months prior to our cruise. She had 2 accidents in the club and was never asked to leave. She was speech delayed so I always spoke to the counselor that was on "potty" duty and told her how my DD pronounce potty so she would know to direct her into the girls room. I guess on one occassion the counselor at the potty changed and my DD had an accident. They paged me to get her and even asked me to bring her back once after I had changed her.

When I picked her up she was out of all of her clothes and in a DCL magic shirt. She only spent probably 4 1/2 hrs total in OC on our 7 day cruise.

My now 4 yo DD is damp alot of the day also and it is reassuring to me to hear that she will outgrow this. She also can stay dry when she is reminded and encouraged to.

I witnessed an potty accident when picking up my DD from the Club. The counselors were very gentle and sensitive about the situation. They took wagons and stood them on their sides to cover the girl while they changed her. Housekeeping was called to clean up the mess.

I'm not sure what happened later, but it was treated like it wasn't a big deal. The bathrooms in the Club are kid size. At least for my daughter, it was "cool" to use the little potty and sink. Good luck! Hope all goes well.

Also MinnieMouse1, I was curious how you got your DD into the Club. There have been so many posts about people trying to get a DD or DS that wasn't quite 3 in the Club and I had never heard of anyone breaking through. Just curious.

I went to the kids club after the rush, basically after I registered my baby at flounders, spoke with a counselor and told her I had a daughter who was turning 3 in a couple months ,had been fully potty trained for a while and asked if she would accept her on a trial basis to the club.

They said sure and she stayed there for the cruise. My 1 1/2 yo also went into play with my supervision once or twice. She had a great time on the slide and for the story time.

There definately isn't a one strike and your out rule, but if the counselors do see it is a recurrent problem, they might disallow your DD from the club. If you do plan on stopping by frequently and checking in on her, I don't think it will be a problem at all. I'd also mention it to the couselors so they can also remind your DD to go to the potty.

Thank you so much for the replies. I feel much better. I plan to discuss the problem with the counselors as I do not want to 'hide' anything. I will understand if they kick her out, but I hope that with my checking on her and hopefully encouragement from the counselors she can enjoy some time everyday. Thanks for the well wishes!

I have to agree that I think you will be fine. We just came back from a 4 night Wonder (Feb 13-17) and DS had just turned 3 on Feb 12th - so I think he has one of the youngest ones. The counsellors were absolutely wonderful - extremely nice, and condierate and compassionate about my concerns. DS had one accident, he was telling a councellor he had to go - and he did, right at her feet. Well, I was paged "DS has had a potty accident, please pick him up at The Club". I made it down there in just a few minutes. He was sitting with a counsellor. She advised they had called housekeeping to clean up the mess - which was surrounded with chairs to keep others out. She was really nice, encouraging DS that "these things happen sometimes" and she welcomed him back as soon as he had changed/he was ready. I think they really go to great lengths to ensure the children are well taken care of. I don't think you have to worry.

My biggest fear was that DS would get 'stuck' in the washroom, either not being able to get his pants/underpants organized or having to go #2 and not being able to clean himself up (they still help the kids at his daycare with that aspect of things, I don't think at 3 their arms are long enough to clean up 'down there').

In any case, I think you and DD will be fine - we also checked up on DS frequently and took him to use the toilet, and all the staff were very friendly and supportive.

Just wanted to say that I really feel for you. Both of my kids waited until 3 1/2 to get themselves out of diapers (or training pants, depending on progress) and I know how maddening it can be. Neither of mine had an overactive bladder - my oldest just wanted to get it completely right the first time, my youngest gets distracted easily - even at 5 1/2 she will announce "I have to go potty!!!!" and bolt to the bathroom.
