help with new passport

Next summer we are taking my dad with us to disney. This will be his first time and the thought of my dad seeing how much the children enjoy this place is something im really looking forward too.
We were chatting about the holiday with some friends and i happen to mention that my dads current passport has run out so he will need to get a new one issued. My friend said that she has heard on the radio that it could take a few months to get a passport reissued and in some cases people have to attend an interview. can anyone tell me is this for first time passport holdres or does renewals have to go through the same process. My dad has plenty of time to get his renewal, but it was just a thought as ive not heard anything about this new regulation.

As far as I know, renewals are not required to attend interviews.

Best way I found earlier this year was to complete the application on line.
It automatically jumps to the next appropriate question depending on your previous answer so no time spent trying to understand the form

You get the completed form sent to you to check and sign.
Post it back with payment, new picture and hey ho, new passport.
Took us 4/5 days to get the form back, less than two weeks to get the passport in January.

Just re-newed DWs passport. I filled in the form on-line and then they send you the completed form in the post to check and sign.

We took ours to the Post Office to get checked and sent. Passport arrived about a week later
