Hi, I am in a Public Speaking class at the college I am attending and I get to give an informational speech. So I naturally am going to do a speech on Disney World, but my problem is putting into words the "Disney Magic" you experience while you are at WDW. I guess for me it the excitement you feel in the pit of your stomache almost every minute you are in the park.

What I am asking is for some of you guys that have been many more times than me, to describe the "Magic". I of course will give you full credit in my speech.

I also am doing this as a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation so if you have any great pictures you would like to share, just send me the link if it already posted on the web, or email it to me.

Thanks alot
Kim

You are right! It is tough to put the Magic into words. I agree with you when you said it is a "feeling". You just know when you are there its like a whole other world. Nothing else is going on except Disney Magic. For example we visited WDW last year 2 weeks after 9/11. We were worried about going at first, but once we arrived it was as if everything was ok. We went to the parks and had a good time. It was so nice to feel some Magic when there wasnt much left in the world at that time. I guess maybe I would call the feeling, a feeling of happiness,or no cares. Hakunah Mattata ! ;)

I think a big part of the magic is getting disconnected from reality. As far as the eye can see, there are beautiful and/or unusual scenes. You are surrounded by thousands of acres of activities being enjoyed by people who for the most part are enjoying their time with family and friends. For some it's a once in a lifetime experience. Most of the castmembers go out of their way to be helpful and friendly(which is also a little different than a trip to the mall). It's a place where priorities change from your job, mortgage, etc. to "...can we ride Buzz Lightyear and use our Peter Pan fastpass before lunch at the castle?"

Good luck with the project.

To me the magic is that everyone gets to be a kid at Disney, not just the children. It is a place where you can truly learn how to play again...something most adults forget how to do. Your imagination takes over and your cares just drop away. To me that is what the magic of Disney is all about.

Good luck with your speech.

It's in the big things:
The Fairy-tale castle brought to life.
The ability to step into a story-book, the past, or the future all within a few minutes.
The ability to walk around the world and experience different cultures in one afternoon.
The fantastic shows of acting, singing, dancing, and/or pyrotechnics that just take your breath away.

Or the small things:
The attention to detail.
The hidden Mickeys left as a puzzle for guests to solve.
The flowers that never seem to wilt

But most of all, it's in the personal things:
The tears of a mom watching her child walk to Mickey for the first time.
The love seen between two newlyweds revisiting their childhood.
The hug shared between a child, eyes full of wonder, and the characters.
The baloon that appears as if out of nowhere to replace the one a child just lost.
The family that is spending a good time together, possibly for the first time in years.
The laughter of the young or young-at-heart.

I just want to Thank you guys for your help. Especially made me feel better that I am no the only one who has some trouble expressing the "magic" into words.

Maybe once I get the presentation together I'll find a way to post it on the web for you guys to see.:)

Kim, here is a post from DIS'er, TJ Munk, who used to be a CM at WDW. I think it says a lot.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm the moderator of the Just Say Thanks Board. I'm also a WDW Entertainment Cast Member, that's about as specific as I'll get . Anyhow, the other day I had a really bad day. Just totally lousy; lousy weather, lousy guests, lousy CMS, lousy lousy lousy...did I mention it was a bad day? Anyhow, I came home and started writing in my journal, as I often do when I get stressed and I started making a list of "Why I do my Job." I posted it on my locker at work, and lots of other CMs have really appreciated it. It ended up sounding kind of like a poem, so I thought I'd share it with y'all for a little inspiration....

WHY I DO MY JOB....

For the baby who takes his first steps into my arms. For the grandma in the wheelchair who doesn't think anyone is paying attention, and then squeals with delight when I sneak up behind her. For the little boy who is so scared he hides behind his mother, but after 10 minutes of patient "peek-a-boo" touches my finger. For the parents who laugh when they tell their kids, "Now turn around," and I turn around too. For every little child who hugs me and says, "I love you." For the blind girl who runs her hands over my face and is awestruck. For the little girl with braces on her legs who gets up and waltzes with the Beast. For the little toddler who blows me kisses. For the baby who sist on my lap and sucks my nose, or grabs my finger. For the people who clap along to the music on parade route. For the laugher. For the Make-a-Wish child who smiles and doesn't think about his pain. For the hugs. For every child who REALLY believes. For being able to act silly. For the smiles. For all the kids on parade route who think to themselves, "Someday I want to do that." For the chance, however brief, to make a difference in someone's life.

"Nothing is more wonderful than the imagination, for in a moment, you can experience a beautiful fantasy, or an exciting adventure..."
