Can anyone give me help/suggestions?

We have Pinnacle Studio 9. We have a computer that is about 3-4 years old with Windows XP on it. We do have an external Western Digital Drive and can get another.

Problem we are having: our system can't seem to handle the actual editing/storing of our videos but we can't figure out how to default it to the External Drive.

So, is there a better program to use? Is there an online place to do this? We need to upload the videotapes that use the smaller (I think 8mm) tapes and we also have some DVD's like from dance recitals and some VHS tapes that are older from our wedding, etc. I want to use all of these things as sources and I don't want to buy a new computer.

Does anyone have a good program? Preferably one that can be downloaded instead of buying in a store or do I have a good program? I noticed that there is an upgrade to Studio 12 out.

What does everyone use?

This aricle has some info in using that version that might help you some

Click the Settings button in the lower-right corner to open the Pinnacle Studio Setup Options dialog box. The Capture Format tab is where you choose your capture parameters if you capture in a format other than DV ( Figure 3.5 ).

Figure 3.5 The Capture Format tab. Since DV is a standard format, there are no options, but you'll have to select options here when capturing in MPEG or preview format.

The Capture Source tab is where you select your capture device and scene-detection options ( Figure 3.6 ). This is also where you choose and test the capture drive (see "Testing Your Capture Drive" in Chapter 2).

Figure 3.6 Here's the Capture Source screen again. Chapter 2 explained how to select and test the capture drive from this screen; this chapter explores the scene-detection options and how to choose among various capture devices.
