Help with daughter's first period during our vacation

Ok, so me, 4 kids later, always starts my "friend" on a vacation....no matter how I plan our trip, I am always cramping while I am trying to relax. So how do you offset on b/c. I have only used it a couple of times to control my period when it was "out of control". Then I came off again. So I feel so stupid, but when do you start it and what do you say to the doctor?

On the other note, I tried and tried to get a tampon in when I was about 13 and could not get it in....so if you want her to use one on vacation, I would just give it a practice run.

As you may remember from the times you've been on the BCP, each pack has 3 weeks of hormone pills and 1 week of placebos. The placebos are what lets your period occur. If you skip the placebos and start a new pack immediately (giving yourself no break from the hormones), you can suppress a period.

I've done this a few times and it was mostly successful. I usually had a little bit of breakthrough bleeding, but just spotting really. Now I'm on Yaz and I maybe have a period every 3 or 4 months. There's been times I've gone 6 months without a period on this pill, and I'm not skipping the placebo pills. It freaked me out in the beginning, but my ob/gyn insists it is completely normal with the new generation of pills.

:lmao: So, I agree with the previous posters that life just sucks when you're female, suck it up, and move on. BUT I want to share too!!

I was the last generation to use the belt and pad thing. Fortunately only maybe 6 times.

DD's friend got hers in 4th grade, so we had the talk last year. DD11.5 is in puberty, but I think we have a year. She already has some pads stashed away, has put them in her underwear to see how before it's an issue, keeps one in her backpack and one in her gym locker. Her biggest fear is having to go to the school nurse for it (she's WICKED according to DD). She took them to church camp with her just in case, and has some stashed away in her overnight bag. What can I say? We're Disers and like to be prepared!!

We're pretty open and have discussed tampons. I agree that the American Girl book is SUPER.

After my daughter had her first period she saw a commercial on TV for Seasonal and asked if she could have them. She was 11 1/2 at the time. I took her to her doctor and she gave them to her. She said it was safe and provided me with the research to back it up. She has no problem giving them to girls even after their first period. She does not require a full exam until she becomes sexually active or age 16 which ever one comes first. My daughter understands fully and LOVES only having 4 periods per year. Several of her friends have started taking them after she told them about how wonderful they are. In fact, I think most of the girls in her class are now taking them.

The pill's period is a fake one. So when yo utake the pacebo you are making yourself bleed, but it is a chemically induced one. Not a real one. I take seasonale as well, but I skip the period and go to the next pack, so I have none. I am done having kids though, so I am not worried if it is messing with how my AF will be if or after I get off them. I never want another child as I am pretty old with the youngest as it is. LOL! And I HATE periods more than anything. I wish I had known about this years ago when I would go on vacation and AF would start. What a pain.
If you want to do the skipping of AF with the pil you should start them a few months before hand as you can have breakthrough bleeding until your body adjust. I recommend seasonale though, as it is the best one and cheaper. I pay $10- 20 every 3 months (my insurance changes the price each time for some reason), and with my old monthly pill I was paying $10-20 every 3 weeks.
Aslo there is no reason to have a period every month with the pill. The reason they made them that way to begin with, is to keep women normal like others women who weren't on it. Like I siad, the period isn't real. It was done that way for psycholical reasons.
Al lthat being siad, it is hormones and I wouldn;t put my child on it till she asked (becuase of sexual activity) or I found out she was sexually active. When you go off the pill you need to wait 3 months till you are supposed to try and concieve, and some take a few years if they have been on them long term. (those who do the Depo shot average 2-5 years before they can concieve after stopping the shot)

I went through this with DD last year when we went to Disney. I would never have resorted to BC for a young girl, but I did try to instruct her on tampon usage. She hates them. Of course irregular as her periods were in the beginning, she had it when we went to Disney (Murphy's Law). The day we went to TL she relented and used a tampon...she never even got in the water and she was leaking. She was mortified. I still don't know if she didn't insert it properly or what, but now she won't touch tampons and she wound up sitting out of the water activities that day. We cut our time short there and I'm just praying we don't have a repeat on this next trip. Your not alone. You just have to deal with it when and if it happens on your trip. Maybe just in case, you can ease her into the tampon usage now so its not foreign to her later.

My guess would be she didn't put it up high enough. That is the mistake I made the first time I tried to use them. It's very uncomfortable too.

This is what I told her. I said if she could feel it, then it wasn't up far enough. She doesn't care to try it again though.
