Help with change in plan for CC 5K

We're at T-minus 6 days to our WDW/DCL/WDW 2 week trip. We are sailing on the 3 night Dream on 8/12. My DH and I were originally going to do the 5K together at CC while our DS would stay at Scuttle's Cove. However, today my orthopedist did not clear me to do the 5K.

Please help me picture how this is going to work now that only DH will do the 5K. My brain is fried from planning and packing and keeping up with the changes so I need someone else's DCL veteran brain to walk me through what this morning will now look like.

I know DH will be grouped together with the other 5K people and they leave the ship together. About how long after they get off the ship will the rest of us be allowed to disembark?

What would be a good meeting place for us on CC that is around the family beach with good shade and hammocks? It's been 16 years since DH and I last set foot on CC and we only stayed at Serenity Bay that one time so I have no familiarity with the family beach.

Would we bring our wave phones or just use cell phones via DCL app to contact each other once he finishes the 5K?

As always, TIA.

I personally have never done the normal island 5K where we got off the ship any earlier than other people. Usually there are already people off the ship clogging up our pathway to walk up to the start.

Others have done it where they get off before.

But if they get off before it's not long before.

Wave phones to contact. The app isn't supposed to work on the island, and unless you have a Bahamas cell plan don't *call* him on your cells.

Shade and especially hammocks are taken (and hogged, in my experience) from the moment people get off the ship.

When my husband did the 5k on our 3 day cruise, my boys and I were already on the beach for at least a half hour before the runners showed up to start.

We have been lucky runners and been allowed off the ship along with some of the first passengers off. So you might be able to depart with your husband and set up camp before he even runs. If not, easy enough to set up your spot and wait for him by the finish (bicycle rentals) if his run starts before you can make it off the ship.

I'm sure he will be excited to see you and the little one as he is finishing his race, lots of families wait at the end. He will have a long walk to the start of the race, but you can take transportation, which will be much faster and easier for your child.

Near the flippers and float rental there is a bathroom. (Should be area "O" on the Castaway map). Go to the left of the bathroom, this is close to the snorkel lagoon area. There will be chairs, hammocks, and the like that you can plop down on. I would recommend using the wave phone for Castaway. While they do have some wifi access, there are dead zones across the island, and it may not be terribly reliable. I do know that the start of the race area is a dead zone - I ran into that issue in February when I ran the 5k and my wife did not. Yout husband can take a small bag ans stash it in the foot locker during the race or just carry the phone with him.

:thanks: for all of your very helpful replies. You gave me the exact info I was hoping to get and you have put my mind at ease.
We're bringing the wave phones then and try to meet DH at the finish line. And thanks to you all, I even know where that is now.

How many wave phones per room? We'll be cruising for the first time in November. :)

My DS11 and I did the 5K two weeks ago. The rest of the family came with us and we all got off the ship together. They walked with us to the start line where DH and the kids went to the family beach and DS and I ran. When we finished we knew which beach they were on so it was easy to find them.
