Help with cat peeing problem....PLEASE! :) updated AGAIN post #24

Awwww. Poor kitty. Hope he is feeling better and can come home soon!

Aw, I hope your little guy is ok. It is so hard waiting for test results
It is good you got him in there sooner than later. Hopefully something that can be fixed easily.

update:
took Mowana to the vet today. His bladder was completely empty so they are keeping him until it's full (but they said it sometimes takes 36 hours to catch them with a full bladder) then they will put a needle in his lower belly to get a sterile specimin of urine and test that for a UTI and for crystals. if there are crystals, they'll do an x-ray to look for a stone. if he won't keep urine in his bladder (he won't have a litter box, but if he pees anyway) they give him Lasix and then hold him until he has a full bladder! :)

just waiting on word from the vet. poor little thing. as annoying as he can be sometimes, i miss him already. :(

I remember one time when I took our cat in to be tested....she got scared, jumped off the table onto the floor, went under the table, and peed there!

Here's the latest. We're going in to get Mo around 5:45. He never cooperated and gave them a full bladder. They said they'd watch him like a hawk and as soon as they got distracted, he'd pee! :sad2: That's my uncooperative cat for you. They were able to get a urine specimin for a urnialysis (just not for culture) by putting saran wrap in the litter box and letting a puddle collect.

There were struvite crystals and a small amount of blood in there.

So....the plan now is....
he comes home on science c/d diet (anyone know if I HAVE to buy this at the vet? or do places like petsmart carry it and is it cheaper that way)
he'll come home on sedatives for 5 days.
he'll have to be confined to a very small room for that long. :(

Thanks for all the well wishes. :)

When my kitty was on that diet we had to get it at the vet because it was "prescription"

It wasn't too too expensive....

I'm so sorry for your kitty! Hope he gets well soon!

We have to buy prescription cat food for my renal failure cat and we buy ours at Petsmart. Keep in mind that some Petsmarts only sell prescription food if it is attached to Banfield vet's office.

Also, many prescription foods are less palatable than regular foods and some cats refuse to eat them. We have tried the Hills Science Diet k/d (kidney disease) and neither of my renal failure cats would eat it. We switched them to the kidney diet from a brand called Royal Canin and they seemed to like it as much as their old non-Rx food. If kitty is not eating be sure to ask your vet if there is a more palatable brand.

Keep us posted!

One of our cats is on the Science diet c/d. Actually he gets a mix of that and regular tinned food (Friskies) twice a day. His peeing problem hasn't come back since switching him to that.

My cat was on it per the Vet, after a two week stay at the hospital. He was very, very ill. But the Vet did say that after a month or two he could switch to the urinary formala dry food by other companys other then science diet. He was been going strong now for over a year.
Hope the same for your little guy.

Kitty is home and sedated. He got prescriptions for sedatives, pain killers and antibiotics. I was a bit wigged out b/c as soon as we got him home, he went into his litter box, and while standing, sprayed a lot of urine straight out the back. Glad that he's passing a lot of urine, but freaked b/c it was more in the "marking" way than in a normal "squat and pee" way. Maybe he was just glad to be home and was making a point.

I'm also bummed by the Science Diet c/d ingredients. We've fed him high quality food from day 1 (no by products, no fillers) and now I'm looking at the ingredients of this food and it starts with "Brewers Rice" and then "Chicken by-products." Then goes on with "corn gluten meal, pork fat and chicken liver flavor."

Yuck.

My cat pees on my leather couch too. It is really annoying. She is going to be three this year and she's done it since she first went into heat. But we got her fixed shortly after. Then we replaced all our old leather furniture with new stuff and she STILL goes pee in between the cracks of the couch. So we have to lay pillows down to cover the cracks, otherwise she pees in them. Sometime a lot of pee and other times she just squirts. I know she doesn't have an infection, but I just can't figure out why she is doing it. And that is the ONLY place she will pee in randomly.
And it is really hard to clean leather and inside a couch. So I don't know how to get her to stop peeing there. Specially when I don't know why she does it.

Help?
Suggestions?

Yeah, it may sound gross, but it really does do the trick! My cat was so severely blocked they had to catheterize him at the vet's, and once they got his condition under control, they put him on the c/d. That was 6 years ago, and he's never had a problem since. And he actually loves that food... Once, in an emergency, I fed him Iams or some other "premium" urinary-tract health food for a couple of days, and when I was able to get back to the vet's, I got him more c/d. He dove into that stuff like he hadn't eaten in a week. It was nuts.
