We love NOLA! I have travelled several times with my young children and I definitely keep a watchful eye. We're lucky to have friends / family in the area and don't take the kids out to see the nightlife. On the budget side, we highly recommend Cafe Maspero - huge po' boys and muffalettas that you can easily share. They even have a tasty vegetarian muffaletta. Awesome. The aquarium and insectarium are worth seeing, but can be pricey. Cool thing at the insectarium - they have a "cafe" where local cooking students create yummy food out of insects. Sounds gross, but our whole group gladly tried bug salsa and chips and bananas foster. It was surprisingly tasty!

One last thing - drive through daquri stands. Can't beat em! Try the White Russians.
