Hey fellow campers, I need some advise.

Thinking about a trip this year to the mother of all campgrounds, aka disney world, and I would like some opinions on when to go. We have always been the last week or so of October, but I want to go a little later this year.

I can't decide between week of Nov 13 - 20, Nov 27 - Dec 4, or Dec 11 - 18. I really, really would like to see the Christmas decoartions but not if it's too cold outside. I'm from Georgia, so by cold I mean below 60 degrees in the daytime. Crowds are another big issue. In October when we usually go, the longest wait time i have encountered has been 30 mins.

I've been to the halloween party, but never the very merry christmas party. how's that? we liked the halloween one alot. Our kids will be 2 (almost 3) and 5 at time of travel.

We just got our "new to us" fiver this year and hubby is dying to take it Ft. Wilderness. I'm pretty excited myself. The only thing I'm not crazy about is no campfires at your site - especially in December. oh well, the price to pay.....

thanks alot, wendy

We went the 2nd week in Dec. back in 2000...It was wonderful up until about the 16th. Then it started to get very crowded.
From the 9th to the 15th, we walked on every ride, and had the camping loop to ourselves. Hope this helps...............

I vote for December sometime, it's my favorite time of the year. The down side is that Disney raised the prices this year for December; it's now part of "Pre-Holiday Season.

Value Season: 1/1 - 2/11, 8/8 - 11/18
Regular Season: 4/18 - 8/7
Peak Season: 2/12 - 4/17
Holiday Season: 12/20 - 12/31
Pre-Holiday Season: 11/19 - 12/19

If you went with your November 13 dates you would be in Value season and save a few bucks (ther rate you check in under stays the same for your whole visit).

But, you December dates while costing a little more will allow you to see the holiday decorations.

As to crowds, December is never really bad until you start getting close to Christmas and kids start getting out of school.

My vote would be to start on Dec 6. That is the first (clear) week after Thanksgiving that would not be tied to a Thanksgiving trip. The parks and campground have a little "calm before the storm" of holiday travelers. All the Christmas decorations will be up by then.

I cant say you will not encounter any temps below 60 especially at night. But for the most part the weather is nice that time of year. However, it can run from very warm to down right cold. The good news is the pools are well heated and you will be able to swim and enjoy the pool. Just bring plenty of towels to be able to totally dry off when you get out and change back into street clothes.

If you want to see the decorations go in Dec. the weather usually doesn't get that cold until closer to Christmas. Of course there is no guarantee on that. I would think Nov. 27 & 28 would be crowded because of Thanksgiving. Once schools get out for break then crowds will pick up, here I believe school break will start the 20th.

Decorations go up thanksgiving weekend, It is well worth waiting for the decorations, my daughter and I go the first week of December and just have a blast, no crowds and beautiful decorations. this year the Osborne lights are back saw it on the schedule last week when we were there, and they are well worth the trip...

Thanks to everyone for all the advise. It really has helped me narrow down my decision. I think we will go the first week of December. If my parents (the grandparents of my children) go with us, we will HAVE to go then anyway. My dad gets a little nuts at christmas time with the decorations, lights and everything at his own house. I the the osborne lights will be worth it alone, for him to see. I'm even thinking about buying him that backstage tour for $59 where they take you around and show you how everything is done to prepare for christmas. That would be right up his alley.

I have always wanted to see the christmas decorations anyway, and with the bonus of low crowds that week, that's what we'll do. Oh man, i'm gettin' excited!

How will I be able to contain myself for 6 months???????

Anywho, thanks everybody for the great tips. It really helped!

That tour does sound like a great idea!

Have fun planning!!

Early Dec. is the time of choice for us also. Great decorations at the campsites and the entire atmosphere at the World.

GOOD CHOICE.

John

You asked how you would be able to contain yourself for 6 months, just think as I write this there is 1 day less to wait. The hard part is when there is only 1 week left before you leave.
