Help. When should I be purchasing my park tickets?

I got a letter from WDW saying that on December 12th I will be able to make my fastpass selections. The thing is that I wanted to purchase my tickets right before our trip. I can purchase it now, no problem.
Is it required that I purchase the tickets before making selections?

Another question, I will be purchasing the tickets through husband's employer and they will send out e-tickets. Anyone know if those will work? Is there a code or numbers on them for me to enter into mydisneyexperience.com?

Thanks everyone for helping out this newbie! :rotfl:

You must have tickets in order to do the FP. We ordered ours and my husband printed vouchers for pick up. We could use the number or the bad code to input I of MDE. Using my iPad, I was able to scan the codes. Once entered, FP selections could be made since we were within a week of our trip.

*not sure if these print outs were considered e-tickets.

You can't make any FP+ selections at all until you have purchased park admission and linked it to your MDX account.

I don't know what is meant by "e-tickets." What kind of tickets do they sell? Are they regular park tickets or is this in conjunction with a convention or something like that?

If they give you a voucher to use for picking up tickets when you arrive, will this voucher have a number issued by Disney on it?

I bought our tickets via orbitz. They sent a confirmation letter for picking up our tickets at will call. However, after reading these boards , I found out that I could call orbitz and get a code for my purchase that would load all those tickets into my disney experience. From there, I was able to assign each person a ticket.

I am not sure if you're ticket will work the same.

BTW, I never did pick up the tickets at will call since they were linked to MDE already.

From what I've read through the employee discount site, it said that the tickets will be emailed to us and we can print them.
Has anyone ever got tickets this way?

Unfortunately you need to have valid tickets to book FP+. As others have said, most places will give you a code or email the specific ticket codes so that you can link them right away. If buying through Disney, they can put them onto your account immediately.

It kind of stinks, but just imagine the havoc one could create if they wanted to book up times when they had no plans to be there or had several potential dates and booked for all of them. It's hard enough at some times now to get a FP+, I couldn't even imagine.

Good Luck!

Thank you! You know, through the employee discount site, I will be able to save 60.00 after tax. I honestly thought it was more for some reason. Anyway, I went ahead and ordered it on Disney's site just for a peace of mind. While I would have loved to save 60.00 on the tickets, I would hate to purchase them and have them emailed to me with no numbers or ticket codes. I'll just skip eating out for a couple of months and that will make up for the 60.00 I didn't get to save. :hyper:

Thank you very much for your help!
