I live in a condo that does not have a basement, and the washer & dryer are in my kitchen. Both full sized. Needless to say, they take up a lot of room. My neighbor has a stacked unit. Looking on the internet I find there are one unit machines that wash & dry. That kind of machine would save a lot of space in my kitchen.

Does anyone have one of these machines and are they worth the money? I don't want one that rolls to the sink for a hook-up. I want to be able to hook it up to my regular lines.

We live in a co-op. When we moved in, there was a stacked unit in the kitchen. DH wanted it replaced and looked at some dryer/washer combo. We couldn't find any domestic brands. Miele, Bosch, and Samsung makes them, or at least used to until last year.

The problem was that the wash to dry takes up to 3 hours. Since we didn't want to wait 3 hours to do another load(we have 2 young boys who generate a lot of dirty clothing), we went with separate washer and dryer by Miele. Our kitchen is not equipped with a vent to hook up the dryer exhaust(?) and Miele makes a dryer with a drawer that collects all the water. They are about the size of dish-washer and fit neatly under the counter. We love them.

I think the Samsung model cost around $1,000 and the Miele model was a lot more--I don't remember the exact figure.

Can't give you any current info, but my mom had one of those in the 1950's made by GE. She loved it! She worked and it sure saved her a lot of time. It was only made for a short time as it didn't sell in those days. Too expensive and a lot of people still liked to hang clothes outside to dry. She had hers for a long time until it broke and parts weren't available. Then a few years ago, I took the house tour in Innoventions at Epcot and lo and behold, there was a combo unit! The CM was going on and on about how it was the latest thing and was popular in Europe, etc. Little did he know...
Anyway, the one my mom had worked quite well. When my current washer goes, I am seriously thinking of the combo to avoid going up & down stairs so often with my artheritic knees!

Just a bump for the evening folks.

I don't recall the brand, darn it.

But I bought one for $750 (combo stacked unit) about 10 years ago. I got it at one of those appliance warehouse stores, like Appliances Direct or something like that. Each state has it's own, I imagine. I think it was a GE, but don't quote me on that.

I've since moved into a bigger place with a laundry room, so I sold it. Or gave it away...heck, I don't remember!
