we would like to try a new dining experience that we haven't done yet, so many choices make it hard to narrow down, so looking for suggestions.

We have two kids, daughter is 5 and son is 9, going in March. We always have tried to do one character experience, but it doesn't have to have characters, but there should be something special about it.

This is what we've already done:
Cinderellas castle
Crystal palace
Tusker house
Cape may
Biergarten

Looking forward to suggestions, this board has always come through!

Akershus has princesses. We went for breakfast and enjoyed the food. The interaction was a lot of fun, too.

Garden Grill has farmer Mickey (among others) and the food is served family style. The restaurant rotates, slowly, which can be cool for kids.

Sci-fi is neat and my kids have requested a return there on our next trip. It is VERY dark and the clips are from old B movies and can freak little ones out. Kids don't always like the atmosphere but mine loved it when they were the age of yours. The food isn't great but is edible.
They also loved 50's Prime-Time. We loved the decor and the server gave me a hard time, which cracked my family up! The sampler platter is good along with the PB&J shake.

Sanaa at Kidani is wonderful. Great food and a view of some of the animals on the savanna.

Raglan Road in Disney springs has a band and step dancers. It can be really loud, though. Food is yummy!

Via Napoli is my must-do, but it doesn't have characters or a view (except for the big pizza ovens and cute servers). It's the only place that I can get my favorite pizza and my whole family always wants to go back.

I just thought of one that we're going to try on our next trip, Trail's End buffet. Not so much for the restaurant but because Fort Wilderness has a wagon ride, Chip & Dale's campfire, and other activities. It's something we're going to do on a non-park day so that we can explore WL and FW after our monorail resort tour. My kids are crazy about the monorail, hahaha!

Hoop Dee Doo show and dinner is really popular, there. It's just too expensive for me!

I would add another vote for Sanaa. The savanna view is great, and we've always been very impressed with the food and service.

Boma is also an excellent choice and very family-friendly.

Sci-Fi Dine In is a must! This is our favorite in HS! My kids also loved Garden Grill!

Sci-Fi has another vote from us. My 23 year old son only had one request for our upcoming trip and this was it. I think the food is pretty good as well, love the fried pickles!

Our kids always really enjoyed Teppan Edo (as did the adults). Pretty solid food and a fun time. That might be the best option that I can think of that provides good food and entertainment for kids. 'Ohana is another good option - pretty good food and some entertainment for kids. We really enjoyed Via Napoli but the pizza is a bit different than what you get at a normal pizza place, and it can be very loud.

In no particular order: O'hana at Polynesian, Whishering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge, T-rex or House of Blues at Disney Springs, just to name a few I would recommend.

We branched out on our trip last week and discovered two that we really enjoyed: Boma and Whispering Canyon. Both could be good for kids. If you enjoyed Tusker House (which we also did this trip), you'll like Boma. We found it hadn't more options food-wise. Whispering Canyon has a good schtick for kids and is a fun experience.

We actually did Boma for both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were excellent (I think it's our new favorite). The breakfast may be the best buffet I've been to anywhere. Our waiter was awesome and gave us coffee to go after we ate and we took it out to the savannah viewing area and sat and watched. It was the morning of the day we left, and a great way to end the trip.

Presuming you're looking for "kid friendly" options and not necessarily where the best food may be here are a few thoughts:

DTD - Raglan Road - Fun Irish pub that my daughter loved as they have music and dancers and invited kids to get on stage with them. Food is great too

MK - We love Skippers Canteen. It extends the schtick of the Jungle Cruise and has great food

MGM - Another vote for SciFi. Food is good and reasonable priced and the kids love the cars and old movies playing

Epcot - Not a ton here for the kids, but my daughter loves Teppan Edo for the "show" that comes with the food. We weren't huge fans of garden grill breakfast but I know plenty who are. Plus its cool to revolve around the land and of course meet Mickey in his farmer gear

Resorts - A couple of other thoughts....Sanna (amazing savannah views and best single credit table service on property); Beaches and Cream (fun burgers and ice cream); Whispering Canyon (just don't ask for ketchup)

A trip isn't complete without Hoop dee doo!
We also love Ohana, Trails End, Whispering Canyon!

Another vote for Garden Grill.
My kid was terrified the one and only time we ate at Sci Fi. I think she was 8 or 9? So know your kids well if you decide to do that one.
Other good choices: 1900 PF or BoG.

Captains Grille, Boma are some of my favorites

Favorite character meals are Ohana and Akershus

I definitely second Sci-Fi - love it!
Trying to think of some that haven't been suggested already... how about dining at Poly? There's the Spirit of Aloha show and Ohana. Ohana has the best friends character breakfast. We're doign the Disney Jr. character breakfast at Hollywood & Vine on our upcoming trip. Chef mickey is another option. We're doing that on the day we check in since we aren't going to a park that day.

Akershus if the kid(s) are into princesses at all. Coral Reef may be really cool (admittedly I haven't been there in 7-8 years though). 1900 has pretty good food and characters as well. I'd put the Wave in there if you don't care about characters (great food).

Sci-Fi is a must do for us every trip, we really like it there. We travel in late August and that restaurant is one of the quietest & coolest places to relax for a bit and the food is good too. Sitting in a car is a big hit with kids.

Garden Grill
is our very favourite character meal on property. Always fantastic character interaction. I prefer the family style to buffet because it's more relaxing. Both dinner & breakfast here is great.

Ohana breakfast is another of our fave character meals. Again, the family style is a big plus for us and food is very good.

Whispering Canyon is a favourite of my 8yo son. He just loves the crazy antics. The food is just okay, IMO. I ordered off menu last time (rather than the skillet) and enjoyed it quite a bit more, so I will suggest that as an option for sure.

Skipper's Canteen is a great addition to MK dining. The food, service and atmosphere there are all great.

Coral Reef is again another favourite for my son. He is obsessed with marine life, so being able to sit by that giant aquarium is priceless for him. I don't eat seafood, so I can't comment on that, but the NY strip has always been good when I've been there and their Chocolate Wave dessert is one of my very favourite on property.

Not sure if you're looking for a signature experience or not, but Yachtsman is our favourite restaurant on property (so far, still many to try!). The filet mignon I've had there (twice) is the best I've ever had.

I'm going to join the chorus suggesting Sci-Fi. It's such a unique and fun dining experience! The atmosphere inside the restaurant--with it resembling an outdoor drive-in--is really cool, and the food is generally the type where everyone can find something that they like. I'll also sing the praises of Hoop Dee Doo, if you're looking for more of an experience. It's one of those dinner shows that I thought I'd find really cheesy, but it's a lot of fun (and I can't sing the praises of the fried chicken enough... yum!). Yachtsman is amazing, if you want a signature experience (and it's fun for kids, too--I've always particularly been fond of their white chocolate "puzzle" dessert that kids can paint with sugar). I'm particularly looking forward to 1900 Park Fare from a character perspective.

Teppen Edo is fun for the kids but it is really like any other hibachi restaurant that you may have gone to. Whispering canyon is a fun meal and can entertain the kids as well. Also one of our favorites is 50's prime time. The food was great and the theme is awesome as well.

50s Prime Time - Great interior and fun ribbing from the servers. Surprisingly really good food too.
Boma - Really interesting food and views of the animals
