Hello all- I just tried to transfer 21 points to a friend's account, but the Castmember on the phone told me that I couldn't transfer banked points !!! 2 questions- Is this true and what are my options ? I've paid for these points and I don't see why I can't do with them as I please as long as they are being used this year before they expire ! Thanks to all who respond.

Yes it is true that you cannot transfer banked points. You can transfer (unbanked) points and the receiver of those points can bank them but you cannot transfer points that you have already banked.

Per the DVC Member website:

Banked or Borrowed Home Resort Vacation Points may not be Transferred.

Personally I can't figure out the reasoning behind this restriction. Perhaps to get around this restriction you could make a reservation for your friend using the points and then link the reservations.

This is just a guess but I suspect that once they are transferred the points might not retain their "banked" status. If true then the receiver of those banked points could bank them again. Once they are in a new UY, they could be transferred again to someone else (maybe back to the original owner) and then used or even banked again. This is just a guess on my part based on past issues with banked points appearing to be tracked manually.

Thanks for the logical explanation. I know that transferred points retain their use year so maybe it's impossible to determined what year banked points belong to.

One way around it is to use the banked points to make a reservation for your friend (you may need more or less than the total), it can be linked to their reservation. For example, one time I booked a room and used my points for nights 1, 2 & 4 and a friend made a reservation for night 3 (a Friday night) and we linked them together. When we got there, it was seemless, a 4 night reservation.
