Good grief, people!!! I am rationalizing NOTHING. I said from post number one that I WAS SPEEDING, so I obviously realize that I deserved the ticket. I simply asked for advice on the BEST way to handle the ticket. I also said that I have not received a speeding ticket in nearly TWENTY years!!! I don't know what to do because I have not made a HABIT of this!! Also, there is the most straight forward way to handle a ticket (ie, paying the fine), and there is a BETTER way to handle a ticket (like hiring an attorney, deferred adjudification, or defensive driving). I just want the fewest repercussions FROM THIS TICKET for the future.
To those who have offered constructive advice, my thanks. To those who just want to condemn me, back off.
We all rationalize and I know you don't make a habit of speeding. You just made a mistake. Don't feel like the lone ranger. A month ago I did the same thing but got away with it. I have one of those ford products that had to have the cruise control disconnected. I use that control 90 percent of the time.
Well I went into a construction zone at the posted construction speed limit. Midway thru I drifted up 15 MPH and got down to the speed limit pronto. I wasn't paying close enough attention. The lucky part was the radar camera wasn't there that day. That saved me $375.00 min.
If I got caught I would have paid the fine without argument. I made a mistake.
Matter of fact I found out later there is no pleading out on this one. Someone I know had this happen to him. It is a mandatory show up in court. They had over 60 people there on this charge. The judge came out and said everyone here will pay the fine and if you are caught 2 more times your license will be revoked.
I don't know Texas law. Your faith may be in the hands of the judge. With your driving record he may (more than likely) give you other options without you asking.
