I am toying with the idea of driving over to Vero Beach one day during our first trip "home" to the BCV in April, just to see the place. Does that sound crazy? If we had the time off from work, I'd just use points and stay a night, but I don't think they'd let us have another day.

Our favorite beach spot, The Henderson Park Inn, in Destin, FL is being torn down, and I am looking for a new spot. I checked prices on other hotels/condos in the area, and in the summer, we'd be paying nearly $800.00 for just two nights! That is ridiculous. Our dues this year on our Beach Club Points are just barely more than that - I think.

If we love Vero, who knows, maybe there'd be a resale in our future. That's what I am kind-of thinking. I am sure Hilton Head would be nice too, and I definetly want to stay there, but I want to be able to see the ocean from my room. I understand you have to travel to the beach at Hilton Head.

Anyway, advice is much appreciated. Don't want to run the family ragged by doing this, but don't want to miss a good opportunity to check out the resort either. We bought BCV sight unseen. I want our next points purchase to be a truly informed one. Thanks.

It's about a 2 hr ride if you have the time - and it's a beautiful resort - definitely worth checking out sometime.

We're DVC owners at VB an love it. We haven't been back since the 2 hurricanes came through, but reports indicate the biggest damage was the ramp beach access...blown/washed away. Currently its being replaced. We like to go there after visiting WDW and kinda wind down before going home. We have always managed an ocean view and getting up in the morning to the Atlantic waves pounding the beach is so nice! It's worth visiting, staying, and owning IMHO.

Yep, under two hours each way to VB. We love to mix our VB and WDW stays, which is I think what Disney intended in the first place. We did it this past January (you can tell the hurricanes came thru all right, but the resort is now in very good shape; just the beach access is different), and will do so again in February '06. I would dearly love to get a Beach Cottage for the whole extended family some day, but sadly none of them are wheelchair accessible  and DS is wheelchair bound. So we make do just fine with the Inn Rooms.

Try it for a night, and see if you don't love it; for your first experience, try an Ocean View inn room, then branch out to 1BR, 2BRs etc.. For us, it was love at first sight.

Vero Beach is a beautiful resort - we own there and at BCV and SSR, I would not use a vacation day though to drive there and then back to WDW

Maybe on your next trip, plan to spend a couple of nights there with your BCV points - it is quite nice, right on the beach, lots of activites for the kids as well

Cheers

Given the choice between the 2...I would go with HH. Vero is a beautiful resort, however, I was just not happy with the beach. It was very short (not sure if that makes sense....the amount of sand is limited). Also, I felt the sand was way to rough. It was very shelly. My son was digging for about 3 minutes and asked to go back up to the pool. He couldn't kneel due to all of the rough stuff in the sand.

Now, this is about 3 years ago. I am not sure what the hurricanes have done to the beach.

I always thought that HH not being on the beach would bug me, it is actually not bad. The resort has so many things to do and the way the shuttle runs makes it Ok. It also has one of the best beaches I was ever at.

Just my 2 cents,
Kim

I think the rough small beach is just a nature thing - we have been when it was miles of soft beach and others when it was just a tiney tiny piece of rough beach - we just put it down to the tides.

We added a vero trip before our actual wdw trip in Nov right after the hurricanes. The resort is beautiful and we stayed in the main building in an oceanview inn! Absolutely gorgeous view of the pool and the beach. As for the sand, I don't know what the hurricanes or disney did but it was the cleanest sand I have ever touched. It was soft and not shelly and it was the best beach we have ever been to! We loved it so much that we are in the process of adding on at vero because it is going to be added on permanently to our Disney vacation.

It might be much more enjoyable to add a night at vero on the beginning or end of your vacation at vero, to avoid 4 hours in the car in one day,

We have never stayed at VB but we have been there 2 times in the last year. I have a sister who now lives near by so when we were visiting her we have stoped in to look around. I think it is a wonderful resort. We are not beach people but we still look forward to maby a 2 night stay sometime in the near future. As to a 4 hour round trip to check it out; I would not waste my vacation time! Trust me if you can plan a night or 2 into a trip you will not be disapointed but to just drive there and then turn around; I can think of much better ways of spending my vacation.
