We will be leaving for Disney next week and staying for 10 days. My daughter is in the 4th grade and last night told me that she will have to work on a Science Fair project while at Disney. I would LOVE to do the project at Disney on Disney. Does anyone have any ideas of what would be a good topic to research while there to do a project on?

Thanks in advance!!! :)

I would see if you can do the Behind the Seeds tour at the Land in Epcot. The Living with Land ride greenhouses are really cool. You can see them when you ride the ride, but I'm sure the tour would give great information for a project. You can google to get info on it. She could do a project on growing things hydroponically as opposed to in soil, or I bet there are a ton of other ideas in those Greenhouses. Maybe she can even come home and grow something for part of her project- I don't know what your time line is.

Another idea would be something with Rafiki's Conservation Station at AK. There are even times when you can see veterinarians performing surgeries on animals in there.

You could also do something with the science behind rides such as coasters (G-forces; gravitational pull etc) or a ride like splash. That is kind of more engineering, but in 4th grade I think they pretty much lump it all into Science

With the large number of animals and conservation type things at AK, I think you could find something.

Although, the science of roller coasters could be really cool. You could talk about the indoor coasters, EE going backwards, lots of different areas.

Maybe something on fireworks??

Just throwing out ideas out there!

I am thinking more on the lines of heart or pulse rate or rides etc. pedometers for walking.

I know one girl in ds class who won once did something about video games and heart rate rising like in a very intense game etc.

Maybe scary or fast rides and heart rate or pulse versus a calm ride etc?

I'd try something with behavioral sciences. There would be plenty of people to observe. . . maybe seeing how many people actually pick the right line as opposed to the left line. ..would be great! Plus being a teacher I'll let you in on a secret. . . not may kids do behavioral science projects so that increases the chance she would win something!

I would refer back to the post near this one about passing gas! You could do her project on the effects of free dining on Disney goers! :lmao:

Check to see if there is any Yes programs going on when you are there...they might give her some ideas.

When standing in a line she could ask the people in front and the people behind your family a few questions, that way she isn't approaching anyone without you being right there.

1 Where they are from?
2 How did they travel to WDW?
3 Is this their first trip?
4 How many people in their group?
5 Will they visit all 4 parks?
6 Will they visit a waterpark?
7 Spend time at the pool?

I'm sure you can come up with other questions.

She can then compile the information and use it in many ways ie. Venn diagram, etc.

What does your daughter think? What parts of Disney does she love? What parts interest her the most? Can anything she loves already be translated into a science fair project?

I agree with behind the seeds tour it would be a really cool one to do and there are things about NASA projects as well as all the other cool stuff. Loads of information that I'm sure a science project could based on.

Thank you all so much!! This was extremely helpful! I am leaning towards the Behind the Seeds tour because my daughter thought that would be lots of fun.

Again, thank you all so very much!

Hmm...do they sell the Mickey head molds that they use for the pumpkins? :)

The Behind the Seeds tour should give lots of information about hydroponics, etc.

She doesn't have to get the project approved by the teacher? My DS got his approved but doesn't like it any more and it stuck. I like the idea of checking pulse rate after people get off Russ, hypothesis could be younger people have a lower heart rate than older people or kids have lower rate than adults or something like that.

I agree, anything in Epcot (Future World) or Animal Kingdom would be awsome to use for a science project!!

Let us know how it turned out :goodvibes

Hi.....I have been thinking for the past couple of years that a Science project based around the theme parks would be an excellent idea. Has anyone actually completed one based on the theme parks? What themes did you use? How did it work out? Originally I was thinking of something bssed around the coasters, but Im not sure about the equipment needed ( to test g forces etc). I tried contacting some of the amusement parks that offer student programs for local schools but no luck.

The heart rate idea is awesome.....but would you feel weird if someone asked if you minded having your rate checked? Also would the parks frown on this - not that we would be accosting anyone:)

We have a 3rd & 4th grader who could do a combined project and will there for at least two four night trips. We will be hitting BG, Seaworld, Universal, and Disney. We go fairly often and obviously dont hit every attraction on each trip :)

Any tips, advise, or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!!
