Help pls in understanding my points...

Hi Folks! I am awaiting anxiously for the DVC lines to open so I can obtain some info on our contract. In the meantime, I am wondering if some of you experts can 'shed some light'. I will hopefully book a stay for the next couple of weeks and wondering how many points can I count on. Our UY is Dec, and out contract reads: Actual Pts Remain for 2010 :227 pts and Vac Pts to Bank by July 31,2011 is : 142 pts and then for 2011: Act Pts Remain: 184 pts and Pts to Bank and Borrow is 184 pts each.

How is the BEST way to use these points, we will not travel till first or second week of August. Thanks for the help!

It sounds as though there are 142 points remaining from the current (2010) Use Year that can still be banked plus 85 banked into 2010 from your 2009 Use Year (those cannot be banked again and MUST be used by November 30, 2011).

You also have 184 points available from your December 2011 Use Year. Those points may be borrowed for a trip before November 30, 2011, used for trips from 12/1/11 - 11/30/12 or banked for use from 12/1/12 - 11/30/13.

So, for a trip in August 2011, you have all 227 points that remain in your 2010 Use Year and you could also borrow 184 from your 2011 Use Year.

There are 85 banked points that need to be used by 11/31/11 and another 142 that can be used without banking. Any of those 142 that you will not need for the August trip need to be banked (by the end of this month) for use through November, 2012 - otherwise they will expire after November 30, 2011.

Make that call to MS at 9:00 am and see what is available for next month!

Webdoc...thanks for clarifying this!!! Will MS automatically use my 142 pts that will expire before the end of this month or must I specify that I want to bank these and use them for next month (Aug for our trip?) Am I correct? In actuality we have 411 pts to use up???

MS will usually use the banked points first and then current points, but I would always suggest mentioning that yourself. I would also request (they usually do this anyway) for a recap of your points before hanging up and ask for the breakdown of current and banked points. After the call, I'd also go onto the member site to see your reservation and also the status of the points in your account to make sure that everything agrees with what you were just told.

Yes, you could use up to 411 points for a trip before November 30, 2011.

You do NOT need to bank any points for a trip in August, 2011. You would just use the 85 points already banked and the 142 current points. If you won't use all of those 142 current points before November 30, 2011 you have until July 31, 2011 to bank them for use between 12/1/2011 - 11/31/2012. None of your points expire this month. You have until November 30, 2011 to use the banked and current points in your account (or bank some for use next year).
