What is the difference between renting points and transferring them? I am looking to stay at VWL in summer- any advice?
Thanks! :cool1:

If you are a DVC member, another DVC member could "transfer" their points into your account at whatever price you agree on. Once transferred, the points would be in your account, you would control them and would make your own reservation.

If you are not a DVC member, you could "rent" points from a DVC member. Once you both agree on price and payment terms, they would make the reservation for you. They continue to have control of the points/reservation, so you need to trust and be comfortable with renting from that person.

If you are interested in renting points, you should first read the info at the top of this forum. There are DVC point charts at the top that will tell you how many points are required based on the resort, dates of travel and accommodation size. Points usually rent on this board for around $10 - $12 per point, so that will give you an idea of cost.

Then you should post on the rent/trade board giving as much info as possible such as dates needed, which resort and what room size you are looking for. VWL is one of the smaller resorts and fills up quickly. If you are looking for this summer, you should probably start the process soon. Hope this helps.

lizziepooh is correct. Here's another way to explain it -

Transferring points is a transaction that can only occur between DVC members.

Those who are not DVC members actually rent a reservation from a DVC member. Many refer to that transaction as "renting points", even though that is not strictly correct.

Best wishes -
