My niece age 16 will be flying into Orlando to meet us on vacation. Can anyone tell me what the best way to get her to the Poly would be. She arrives at 12:30pm on a Jet Blue flight. How long of a cab ride is it from the airport to the Poly and how much would it cost. Am I better to arrange a towncar to drive her (we will not have a rental car). Is there anyway to have a driver meet her at the gate when she deplanes (she won't have any luggage) because she is nervous about finding her way out.:scared1: Thanks for any help.

If she is on your reservation and you are staying onsite then she can take DME.

No the driver can't meet her at the gate. The best place to meet would be by the reception desk in baggage claim on the side she comes in on.

She should take ME which is free. Just register her for it then she just gets off the plane and goes directly to the ME check in desk then onto a bus that takes her right to the Poly, well it may have other stops first or not depending but it takes her there, quickly and efficiently.

If they can fly alone and take public transportation I don't see how Disney would get off forbidding them on ME.

If she's nervous about finding her way out, then I probably wouldn't leave it up to her to find a cab and get to the resort on her own. I'd set up a car service. As a PP pointed out, the driver can't meet her at the gate, but she/he CAN be waiting at the escalators in baggage claim holding a sign with her name. There are 2 sides to the Orlando airport - A and B - and the driver will know what side her flight is coming into. She just needs to follow the signs for baggage claim. She should know that after she deplanes, she'll walk a bit until she gets to a train/tram that will take her to the main terminal. From there, she should follow the signs to baggage claim and go down the escalator to the baggage level where the driver will be.

Thanks everyone. Does anyone know how long it takes to get form the airport to the Poly? I would like to give her as many details as possible.

I'd safely allow 1-1.5 hours to get to the Poly from OIA 'door-to-door' depending on traffic on 528 and I-4. It may, in all liklihood, take less time but with Orlando traffic, one never knows.

I would do 1 of 2 things-and I am thinking that I would lean toward plan 2 or 3.
1) I would go on to the countdown board and look for people that are arriving the same day(hopefully time) as DN- you might be able to arrange a mini-meet, and then she could take DME(my prefered carrier in this situation).
2) my other option would be taking a cab and meeting her myself. and then you can either take the cab or TC back. I would not want a 16 yo stepping off an airplane to the car of some unknown person, unless she was with someone else.(Unless Edd knows someone really repetuable-personal driver- or poss a female driver).
3) see if she can take DME alone.

Other thing you might want to investigate is if she knows anyone that is doing the college program(perhaps there is an older sibiling of a friend) that could meet her-you could pay them something for their time.

Now I have arrived in Ireland at 16 yrs totally alone, and got to my college no problem(but that was the 80's), and I have also arrived at MCO with my 2 kids and had a car service pick me up---but I am not 16yrs old nor "small". I think you do have to take personal saftey into consideration(if she is experienced in Martial arts- send her on the TC to the POLY)

I think the ME also, but I would definitely check out all of the details. It does take some time to get from the gate to the ME and then some more time to get to the hotel.
