Ok I have a problem and only you knowledgeable people on Disboards may have a solution. My husband had a massive heart attack last year & kidney cancer now. He is doing great and we will be down for Christmas and will need a scooter, maybe 2. The problem is we have a timeshare that we will be staying at for part of the trip and I don't know how we will manage the scooters. He will not be able to lift them in & out of the car this year as he did in the past. How do I do this, have a scooter for everyday without transporting it back & forth? I cannot take the chance of waiting til we get to the parks everyday. What would I do if we could not get one?Any suggestions?I contacted Buena Vista Scooters about keeping it onsite but have not heard. Thanks to all who even read all the way through this.:rotfl::rotfl:

I guess I would contact one of the companies that rent handicapped accessible vans. This would probably be the best idea, though I have no idea how much it would cost for the rental.

Yep. The only alternatives to peemagg's suggestion are (a) bring someone with you who is able to lift the various parts of the ECVs, or (b) get to each park EARLY - i.e. before it actually opens - and plan to visit just that park that day.

You might be able to rent from Buena Vista Scooters on a daily basis, but don't count on it. You'd have to get there each day (I'm relatively certain even they don't deliver to the parks, as in meet the customer outside the park - for their own financial security) by, probably, valet parking at the Boardwalk. Then you'd have to get to your park of choice. Then you'd have to get the scooter(s) back to BVS before they close each night.

I was told by the CM at the rental site that if you rented the scooter at one park, just take the receipt with you and you will be able to use another scooter at the new park. The scooter rental is good for all day even if you change parks.

What you were told is essentionally correct. The part that they left out was that there was no guarantee that there would be one at the next park for you. Cm's, to my understanding, can't even call over to the next park and ask them to hold one for you if it is available.

If one is not available at the next park you are S.O.L.

::yes::
It is true, if there is one available.
But no guarantees.

When I stayed at a timeshare I either had my own scooter with me (from Texas) or I rented one from one of the local companies. I always stayed at a timeshare that offered a free shuttle to WDW, although they sometimes grumbled about having to stow it (underneath in the luggage bin (the drivers often refused to lift it in and out), but once in a while other passengers would help me by loading it onto the shuttle. The timeshares are really supposed to offer transport for all their guests who have mobility devices if they offer a shuttle for their guests in general (it's the law) and when I stayed at the Vistana the front desk would arrange (and pay for) the Mears accessible shuttle to pick me up, take me to WDW or wherever I needed to go (that their free guest shuttle went) and bring me back since their own free shuttle service drivers refused to load and unload my scooter. They also once rented a town car whose driver took apart and reassembled the scooter. I also took a taxi (with a ramp) to the parks several times at a different timeshare but the taxi, unlike the Mears shuttle, only fits one scooter. Remember, if the timeshare offers a shuttle service for its guests who do not have mobility devices they have to offer the same service to those guests who do use mobility devices.
As for having a car, I never missed it. I simply planned my vacation time around the available shuttle service. If you wish to use your car, just use it for occasional trips where you can get away with not needing to use the scooters. Just leave the car at the timeshare when you do take a shuttle. That way you can take a shuttle when you're going to need the scooters and let someone else do the heavy lifting.

Thank you so much , that is something I did not know. I will look into it:woohoo:

Yes, that's true, but if there is one available, at least you aren't charged again for its use.

Personally, I just rent from Walker Mobility. Many times it's quite a distance from the bus to the wheelchair station. Also, it's cheaper than renting at the park. The only downside is riding the Disney bus when you have a scooter. People make nasty comments, and many times you have to wait for several buses before one is able to transport you.
