We have just purchased a brand new 32 foot TT and our family of 5 loves to camp. I'm just not sold on camping while at Disney (everyone else is, DH, DS 10 & 9, and DD 4) I guess I was thinking of a true vacation and being spoiled, but I have to say camping would save A LOT of money. Please help. Every one in this forum seems passionate about camping and Disney... help convince me camping is the way to go. PS my choice would be to stay at the AKV or the Poly. Thanks.

Camping at Fort Wilderness is WAY different than camping anyplace else! You do feel spoiled! And, if you'd like to feel even more spoiled, make your reservation a package with tickets and the Dining Plan! (But, there would go your savings, I guess) :)

If you already love to camp, I think you will be blown away by the Fort. To me, it is a magical place unlike any of the resort hotels at Disney. The atmosphere during the evening while riding bikes or golf carts around the loops, the meadows area during the campfire, and down the beach, are unmatched. The excitement in the crowds coming and going from the boats is infectious. Having your own bed and bathroom is a definite plus for me as well, compared to the hotels. I don't feel any less spoiled at the Fort than I do at nice resort hotels. The CM's at the Fort certainly don't treat me any differently than if I was in an expensive villa. And if your idea of a vacation does not include cooking...then eat out just the same as if you were in a hotel. It's just nice to know your kitchen is there in case you want to fix coffee in the morning to sit under your awning with, in case you want to grab a snack, or, most importantly, to hit the fridge for a cold one after a long day in the parks! Man, I wish I were there right now.

Not much more to add then what DaveinTN stated above. Trust me, you will love it. :thumbsup2

Camping is a different experience in itself. Add the Disney magic and you end up with a very enjoyable experience.

Been there, done that ...doing it again!!:thumbsup2

Like the others have said - take everything you love about camping, and throw in everything you love about Disney......

Things I would add to what has already been stated................

1. Sleeping in OUR OWN BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

2. Not sleeping in a bed that thousands of other people have "slept" in!:scared1:

3. The campground is beautiful and amazing. There is no place on earth like it!:worship:

4. Coming back from the parks, relaxing in MY OWN CHAIR AND SOFA and cooking out on the grill while my kids play ball, ride bikes or just be kids!:cutie:

5. The boat ride to MK is a "ride" in itself!

6. #1

7. #2

The only thing bad that I can think of are the dogs(or maybe it is their owners). I know some people on here have a problem with my problem but it is just my opinion afterall! There are pet loops and non-pet loops...If you bring your dog camping with you than this will not bother you....get a pet loop and go at it! But, I like NON-pet loops(which is what I ALWAYS request 1st then loop preference) but there always seems to be barking, pooping and annoying dogs in my non-pet loop! Okay, I feel better. That is the only thing I can think of that I don't like about camping. You definately won't have that problem at another Disney resort!
We just got back this past January from a week long trip to the Fort. I had ressies at POP and FW with an AP discount. After comparing the cost of the resorts, cost of diesel VS driving a car, cost of meals if you are in a hotel VS eating most meals in the morning and night at the camper(you don't have to cook), we saw the largest advantage to FW was just based on the $$ savings! The bonus was that it was FW...the best place to camp at the best place on earth!:cloud9: You can not beat it!

If you worry about cooking. Take your crock pot (with liners of course) and make BBQ, stew, soup or chili and let it cook while you are at the parks. The grill is always easy and fast!!!!:goodvibes

Good luck! You won't get anything but :thumbsup2 from everyone around here! WE LOVE THE FORT!

Ok, you hit a soft spot with me! I love camping...camping at Disney is even better! But I must admit that I adore other Disney resorts as well. Especially the Poly, and AKL is one of those jaw dropping gorgeous resorts, too! What I would do (and have done in the past) is come down, stay the first night at AKL, spend the last night at the Poly and everyday in between stay at FW! You get all the resort experiences, and save a bundle of cash!

TheFlame is right - sleeping in your own bed. Bed bugs need i say more. Disney has thousands of international travelers.

After all of that "opinion" I just gave, I realized that VACAMPERS said it best! :thumbsup2

BTW-Has anyone seen Verminators on the Discovery Channel?

That show on bed bugs would be all of the information I would need to never stay in another hotel(High dollar or not-which they said those were the worst!):scared1:

Sometimes a hotel is your only option, at least at Disney they give you LOTS of options and the best option...CAMPING!:dance3:

There are not many other places I can camp and send my wife off to a spa treatment. We have stayed at WL and the Contemporary before buying our travel trailer. We can stay twice as long at FW than we did at the other resorts for a lot less $$$.

Agreed, camping at the Fort isn't like camping anywhere else, for the most part. From dining shows to a massive theme park just minutes away, to the impeccable comfort stations, I doubt you'll find another campground like it anywhere in the world.

Is this what you are talking about? Dirty Sheets exposed video.

I have not seen that...wish now I didn't, but you can't hide the truth. :rolleyes1 Well you can if you don't look or look with a special light.:confused3 On second thought, don't look or you will never stay at another hotel or motel.

I LOVE MY CAMPER!!!!!!!!!!!:dance3:

The show I saw was on the Discovery Channel. It was very gross. It was also about roaches and rats..oh my!!!;) It is a new show that comes on Mondays at 10pm. Don't watch it while eating. For those of you that drink, I would suggest DO watch it while drinking. Maybe you will forget what you see!:scared1: Then you can stay at WL or the POLY with no regrets!:rotfl:

more camping spots for the rest of us!

Thanks to everyone who answered so quickly and posted all thier info (some too much :scared: I think I am sold on the camping and we will probably buy the dining plan....that way I will still feel a little spoiled.:goodvibes

Congratulations on your decision! Hope you have a great trip! We used to go to Disney once every year or 2. Then we bought our tt. Now we have AP passes and go 3-4 times a year. It's that much fun at FW. And as you can see by this forum, the people are the best. :goodvibes
