Hi there

My family and I were looking for some advice and help when visiting from the UK

We are planning to stay in the at the Disney Animal Kingdom Hotel in July 2006. I do not plan to drive when I am there. I was wondering how hard it would be to get to the other resorts outwith Disney

For example Seaworld, Universal plus trips for shopping etc. Is it possible using taxis and buses etc

many thanks for your help

It would be no problem to get a taxi to take you where you want to go. But to go to Sea World or Universal, you may want to look into Mears Transportation, they have a shuttle service that goes to the other parks, I think the cost is about $12-$14 per person round trip and would be cheaper than a taxi. The most expensive option is a town car service, the cost is about $65.00 round trip.
When we went to Sea World for the day we rented a mini van as there were 7 of us and the cost was on $45.00

Hi Helen

Thanks very much for your reply. So does Mears Transportation run from the Disney parks and would they be advertised in the hotels. We only plan a couple of trips away from the park so that's why I thought about the taxi option. So you would reckon that a $65 round trip would be the maximum we would pay? And would the hotel organize booking taxis etc.

Sorry if these are daft questions but it will be our first trip to the USA.

Gaz1000, Mears charges $14 r/t per person. How many are in your party? You should figure out if it is worth it to get the towncar because they just charge a flat fee, not per person. Disney resorts all have the Mears phone number on their phones so its very easy to set up. You just call them the day before you want to go and make a reservation. I have used Mears when traveling alone but have also used a towncar when there are more than 3 in my party. I've used www.transportation2disney.com and they are very reliable. FL Tours is the sponsor of these boards who you can also contact. Mears is also listed on these boards. I wouldn't consider the taxis only because they will charge you one-way at the least $40 (this is hearsay, I've never done it) so it would cost you $80 for r/t. These boards are full of useful information. Good luck and have a pleasant trip. :cool1:

hello Gaz,
Iknow this information is 5 years out of date but I thought it might help.
Like you we did not hire a car when in Orlando in 2000. Dw does allthe driving and she said "I'm not driving on the wrong side of the road".
we stayed on international drive and used a local taxi when we needed to go out to WDW and off I-drive. We asked for a "Return Trip" when booking before breakfast and they picked us up and when we were ready tocome home from the parks and because we had booked return got a priority pick up from wherever we were.
it was much less stressful.
we used the I-drive tram system to go up and down to Seaworld, wet 'n' wild etc. like you will be able to use Disney transport to go to WDW parks.
Sorry it's so long but I hope it helps

P.S. Gaz,
We could have had a free hire car in the cost of the holiday. But by the time we would have had to pay the local tax and insurance the taxis did not work out any dearer
