Help Needed: DisneyGiftCard.com and Chase Disney Visa Rewards Card

Howdy folks,

I'm a long time member but haven't been active in years. Happy to see my account is still active! I'm back because I need some advice. My apologies if these questions have been answered in previous threads; I couldn't find the information myself.

So I've seen recommended, by some here and on some general tip sites, a website called DisneyGiftCard.com. Initially my suspicion was raised by that domain name, but multiple people are claiming it's safe and reliable, so I decided I'd try it. I've got a trip coming up in a few weeks and have multiple gift cards. My wife received a $25 card for her birthday from my sister, and will be receiving another for $100 from my parents. In addition, I have a $99 card which just arrived by mail, but it's not a retail gift card. It is a Disney Visa Rewards Redemption Card. I've used these in the past on previous trips, and when using it at the parks it has worked just like a regular gift card.

But, after registering at DisneyGiftCard.com, the information they ask for when adding a card doesn't match what's on my Redemption Card. The account number is in a different place, and it asks for an 8-digit security code, but my card has a 3-digit code on the back. In fact, the back looks like a normal credit card, and the code looks the same as the CVV on a normal card.

So my questions:

1. Can anyone assuage my lingering concerns that DisneyGiftCard.com is not an official Disney site? It appears to be owned by Disney in how it's branded, but doesn't say so explicitly anywhere, and I can't find a link out to the site from a known official Disney site.

2. Does anyone know if it's possible to add a Disney Visa Rewards Redemption Card to a DisneyGiftCard.com account?

Read the back of the gift card. The website is printed on it. You’re directed to check your balance on the site. That should calm your fears.

1. The site is safe and many of us use it to combine GC's.

2. Your rewards card is not a GC so it cannot be combined with GC's.. It can be used to pay towards any costs for room, tickets or food/merchandise, or you can use at a Disney retail store.

Thanks. It seems like a fairly semantic distinction, given the Rewards Card can be used identically to a gift card with the exception of this one service. But I suppose it's probably that Chase administers the Rewards Cards and Disney administers the retail gift cards separately. It would be nice if they could link the two, though, or at least make it more clear on the website that Rewards Cards are not compatible, and why. I doubt enough people will both be affected by this and care enough to mention it to Disney for it to warrant the effort required to make such changes, though.

Thanks. My card doesn't say that, but of course that would be because my card isn't supported. I don't have my wife's card with me, but I'll take a look at it later--mostly for the sake of curiosity at this point, as I have no reason to doubt you.

Disney Visa rewards are not linked with Disney gift cards. They are two distinctly different things. The amount on the reward card fluxuates and you always use the same rewards card, so hang onto it.

Ah yes, I thought it was weird when I cashed out to a Rewards Card for this trip and the Chase site asked me if I still had my previous card. Nothing on the site or in the included documentation warns users that they should keep the cards after they're fully spent, though. Good to know; thanks!

Really? They seem to function in exactly the same way. As far as I can tell, the only differences are that one is purchased with cash and the other redeemed from points, and apparently that one can be used on DisneyGiftCard.com and the other cannot. It's like a business that takes Discover and American Express but not Visa or Mastercard. It's fine if that's how they do it, but it certainly isn't unreasonable for a customer to ask if they can use a Visa card. And I don't think it's unreasonable to say that they should consider taking all major credit cards, the same as I'm saying Disney should allow Rewards Cards and gift cards to both be used on a website they apparently built specifically to help people keep track of all of their various card balances. That's an imperfect metaphor because it would be easier and less costly for Disney to combine two services over which they have some control than it is for a business to purchase the equipment and service licenses to accept additional types of credit cards.

I don't know how else to explain to you they are two different, unrelated things. Sorry if you aren't getting that. You can't upload Disney reward points to a site specifically designed for Disney gift cards. They are not interchangeable.

Yes its legit and if you're going to use a Disney gift card on a Disney site like ShopDisney or to order tickets and you have multiple gift cards it will direct you to combine them at the gift card site because you can only use one gift card number on those site now.

While the Redemption card does generally work in the same way a gift card does it technically is not a gift card its a reward redemption card.
I have not tried to add it to the gift card website but since its not the same as a gift card I doubt it would be able to be added.
Besides if you were to purchase something on the Disney website it does have a place for a redemption card amount so that solidifies it even more that you cannot add it to the gift card site.

The redemption cards used to expire but now they don't.
You can always get a new one but you can also just use a current one.

I don't know how else to explain to you they are two different, unrelated things. Sorry if you aren't getting that. You can't upload Disney reward points to a site specifically designed for Disney gift cards. They are not interchangeable.

I think the confusion comes in because the redemption card does work in the same way as a gift card when purchasing an item.
I personally understand fully that they are techinically not a gift card but I feel like some have a disconnect since it works in the same way when you're at a gift shop purchasing something.
