Hi So I check my emails this morning and my daugther's girl scout troop leader sends an email saying that on Friday we need to bring a food item for their party and a gift for a gift exchange! I have to work today, tomorrow and Friday and my other daughter is sick so I am very limited when I can even get out. Since I'm paniced I can't think of a gift? Any ideas for an 8-9 year old girl with a $7.00 limit?

thanks!!!!

I'd hit the Littlest Pet Shop/Squinkies/Zoobles aisle at Target and pick up something in the appropriate price level.

Hello Kitty stuff from Target. They have pedicure sets, nail polishes, lip glosses, etc. for like $5 each, and there's always Hello Kitty stuff in the dollar section. Plus, if you're already at Target you can pick up canned items for the food drive :thumbsup2

This is a stressful time of year and getting one more thing piled on top can feel very overwhelming! Hope your DD feels better soon!

I would get something to make (a craft kit), for 8-9 year olds as some of them are not playing with toys as much.

We did a gift exchange last night at girl scouts (6 and 7 year olds) and the girl who got something to make was most excited. Other gifts were squinkies, xia xia (whatever they are called) and a barbie magnetic fashion set. Our limit was $5.

If you have a Michael's near you, you can use a 40% coupon. You could also get fun socks, nail polish, jewelry (Claire's) or a board game or a card game. Good Luck.

My 8 1/2 DD would love lip gloss and polish, and for $7 you can get several. For polish, the crackle is a big hit right now. I know she'd like Hello Kitty and LPS, but she's also at an age where they care about what others think.

HTH!

I agree with the nail polish, lip gloss and body spray. My daughter loves markers, notebooks, mechanical pencils and fancy holiday pens/pencils.
the mix and match socks (toys r us, target and other places) are popular. My kids also love a small gift card to McD's, Burger King, an ice cream place, or a snack place etc. Card games are fun. books, Diary of a wimpy kid has a new book out. Earrings, bracelets, silly bands etc.

nail polish, lip gloss, markers, post its, funkysocks.

My DD- 10 bought a pr of toe socks and hair ties for her gift exchange.

You've already gotten lots of great ideas from other people, so most of the things I was going to suggest have already been listed. Some other options: a reusable water bottle filled with candy, pens and a journal or sketchbook, a book, hair things (barettes, head bands, scrunchies), a small purse or tote bag, a scarf, hat and gloves (or some combination of those).

I would be careful with the nail polish as some parents do not let their kids have it. It would stink to be the child not allow to have it and that be the gift.

I would go with a craft or art kit.

I was shopping for a giving tree for a nine year old girl over the weekend and found a B1G1 free art kit at Michaels for 7.00. I was able to double my donation!:)

Our GS exchange was on Monday. DD brought a couple of balls that you play with on the playground. They were a HUGE hit and somethign a little different than the bath type stuff that many brought. What about something from the GS store? Or a gift card to a fast food place. Maybe some card games.

Thanks sooooo much! I was so frazzled when I got the email I couldn't think of anything! I have a Target and Michael's right next door to each near work I think I will go over there tomorrow. Guess I will be skipping the actual "eating" for lunch tomorrow and replace it with shopping!

Thanks again!

Squinkies

Crafty stuff/art kits--not sure what you can find for $7. But Michael's does have smaller kits that would work.

LPS also might work--mine still play with theirs, but they have migrated from asking for those items.

My kids also like the dollar spot at Target--you can load up on stuff there. The slinkies are only $1. :) (not that I would make it the only gift--just saying if you wanted to put something together, that gives you some flexibility). They also have some holiday themed paint kit things. My 9 year old loves those types of things.

Dd8 loves anything glittery, nail polishes, lip glosses, etc. Yes, crackle is very in. She has absolutely no interest in LPS, squinkies, or girl scouts.

This was just posted on another thread on the budget board and is awesome! It is $6.99 and a Nintendo DS game.
