Help! My I.D. was stollen and I leave on Sunday!

Does anyone know the answer to this?

My wallet was pick pocketed today along with my drivers license! We leave on Sunday and now I do not have a picture I.D. to check in at the airport. I do have my expired license at home, it expired 1 1/2 years ago. Will they allow this? I am at work and cannot call the airline until I leave. I have searched the internet and all I can find is "a valid government I.D. is required at check in".

I'm presuming that your driver's license bureau cannot make you another one immediately if you just go over there w/ a birth cert in hand? And you don't have a passport, right?

For a domestic flight, the airlines WILL allow you to board with no govt. issued ID, but they don't make it easy. You would have to go through the most intensive level of security screening; full pat-down, all bags opened and searched, etc. Give yourself a lot of extra time at the airport and bring any expired ID that you have, it could help a bit.

No, I went immediatley to the Department of Motor Vehicles, told me 7 to 10 days, too long and I don't have a passport.

Thanks for the advice and information, it is somewhat of a relief. I have been frantic all afternoon. I don't care what kind of security I have to go through, as long as I can get on that plane! This trip IS my daughters Christmas gift, that she doesn't even know about yet. If I couldn't go because of this, I would totally freak out.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, but be sure to report the loss to the local police.
And don't states issue photo ID's on request? May be faster than a D.L.?

What a hassle. I had ALL my ID stolen a few years back, and there's nothing like finding out that you essentially need all the stuff that's gone to replace all the stuff you lost!

Just be sure to bring everything that can be considered ID, and the police report file number. Kill 'em with info!

It' will be ok.

My dd lost her i.d. two years ago one week before a trip.

State of MN would not issue her a temp i.d.

so, she took her college i.d. with her to the airport which did not help at all at our MN airport. They screened her carefully, her tickets were makred with some special code, and her baggage opened and checked carefully and marked wiht special code. It was unnerving for her at age of l8.

However, on our return flight from Fl (Pensacola, not Orland0, the gate agent just looked at her college i.d. and handed her her boarding pass. Go figure.

Just dress very plainly. No fancy stuff, buckels, metal stuff. Be pleasant, good luck.

Thanks for the reasuring responses. I talked to the airline a few minutes ago and they said pretty much what you guys said, bring the expired license and be prepared for a thorough screening. As I said, as long as I can get on that plane, I will be willing to undergo any screening they want!

I did fill out a police report immediately and canceled my credit cards and bank debit card within 15 minutes of it happening. I went to lunch with my wallet in my coat pocket and by the time I reached for it to pay for my lunch order the wallet was gone. So much for Christmas magic in New York City!

The dept. of Motor Vehicles is only 1 block from my office and I practically ran there. They cannot issue a replacement license or a state I.D. immediately, all are a 7 - 10 day wait.

So much for thinking it was safer to carry my wallet in my pocket then to carry a handbag when the streets are so crowded. I learned a very valuable lesson.

I should also have posted earlier that I was sorry this happened to you. I see you are from NY. It must have been an unnerving experience to be pick pocketed.

The same thing happened to me last May at a festival.

I was "lucky". Three days after my wallet was stolen, all of my ID, and everything, except the cash, was mailed to me. I guess the thief had a conscience

Pack VERY LIGHT. Check most of your luggage and carryone with THE PERSON WHO HAS ID. Make it very easy for them to search your checked and carryon luggage.

I am just getting into the nighmare of replacing everything that was in my wallet, luckilly that did not include a lot of cash. lol! But the drivers license, credit cards, bank card, health insurance card, prescruption drug plan card, library card, blockbuster video card, all my grocery store & drug store card, etc.

While the experience was unsettling, I am trying not to let it interfere with my excitment about this trip and the holidays. As I posted earlier, I was able to cancel all of my cards within minutes, so I hope the thief enjoyed the $8 or so they got out of the wallet....

Lewis is sort of right about packing light, but don't overdo it. Showing up with no luggage at all for a supposedly long stay is another one of the security flags, like flying on a one-way ticket or buying a ticket with cash.

You also need to contact the credit bureaus and have a flag put on your name to prevent identity theft. With your id they could be opening all sorts of accounts right now.

Good Point! I will try to pack just my clothes in my luggage and put everything else, ie steamer, hair dryer, toiletries, camera equipment, in my daughters luggage.

Thank you for mentioning this, actually the policeman who took my report suggested this and I have contacted all three credit reporting agencies. You just have no idea what is involved to recover and protect yourself when something like this happens.

My paranoia is that we'll be at WDW when my ID gets stolen/lost. Since we're not at home to get an expired DL, what then? Wear flip flops and a tank top to MCO?

Actually loosing a DL in DW did happen to me last December. I lost it in a park somewhere. The beach club called the Orange County Sheriff and they came and filled out paperwork for me. I believe they put my mother's name on the form saying that she verified who i was to the sheriff. Basically it consisted of a full description of me. The women said it happens all the time down there, so i really was not worried about MCO but for my connection in Philly. But luckily no problems. Just thought I would post this so that if it does happen to someone you won't panic but will know what to do.

Now let's just hope that it doesn't happen again next week.

That is a good idea - to the OP, bring the old license and a birth certificate if you have one. If not if you live near your birth place or someone can get it for you in time that could help. Try and bring as much documentation as you can including maybe even the police report to verify the theft.

Also try and remain calm and let the agents due the job, hopefully they will be understanding.
