Help me understand the Dining plans for DL

Can you help me understand what the dining plans at DL are like compared to WDW? I've only been to WDW. Are the plans simlilar? How do you use them?
What restaurants can you eat at? I see that you can purchase how many days you want but other than that I have no clue.

The plans are nothing the same. The Dining plan at DL gives you vouchers for dollar amounts, character meals & snacks. You do not get change back on these, so it's really important you use the full amount of the vouchers so you don't lose money. I did not find them to help us out any & have started using Disney gift cards to "prepay" my meals.

We got $15, $10 & $5 vouchers, so everytime we went to use them, we'd have to figure which ones would get us close to the amount & then cover the balance with cash/card. You don't save money by using this plan....its just a way to prepay.
