Help me understand Magic Mornings

We will be heading out for our first DL trip in May/June. I understand early entry mornings at Disney World, but am unclear about Disneyland?

I am reading that with a 4 day hopper, we would get only 1 or 2 magic mornings? But we are also staying at the DL hotel? Will this get us more?

Also, at Disney World, our plan has generally been to head AWAY from the parks with magic mornings, to avoid the crowds, but I think this may work differently at DL?

Please help?

EMH is disputed; MM is not. You WANT to go to MM when you have access to it.

Fantasyland and much of Tomorrowland is open one hour earlier than park open for those with MM on the days it's offered. Which is usually on Sat, Sun, Tues, and Thurs.

With a normal 3+ day ticket you get access to one MM.

But by staying onsite, you get access to however many MMs happen during your stay (as long as you have tickets that day, of course). The type of admission doesn't matter if you're staying onsite (scads of one day tickets, AP, doesn't matter). You show your keycard, they scan your admission, and you're in.

During a future trip if you do NOT have access to MM, all you want to do is avoid going directly to Fantasyland and Tomorrowland immediately after the park opens, because the lines are going to be full. It's not at all like EMH when the whole park can be full already if you come in after morning EMH.

A hopper of 3 days or longer has 1 Magic Morning on it. Onsite guests can use any ticket and a room key for access from check in to check out day.

It usually happens on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

You can enter DL 1 hour before the general opening, Tomorrowland and Fantasyland attractions are open.

Your WDW plan does not apply at DLR, and may be questionable at WDW, but that another discussion.

Magic mornings do work a little differently then EMH.

First, if you are staying at the DLH then yes, you will be able to enter MM any day they are offered during your stay. Just show your room card for each guest when you enter the turn styles.

MM are a great way to enjoy area's of the park without major crowds. FL is open with everything running, the matterhorn *when not on refurb* star tours and the nemo subs. (I may have missed a couple of attractions)

We make use of MM when there even if we do not go on any rides, just to be able to wander in area's with few people.

I feel that MM are not as crowded as EMH because not everything is up and running, which makes it nice to wander the area's that are open without it being too crowded.

This is great advice. Okay, help me a step further, if you don't mind.

Our trip will run from a Wed-Wed. I'm planning on 4 days in DL parks, one day for SeaWorld and one day for Hollywood/LA using the Grayline services. I am also considering if we should swap out one DL day for Universal?

I'm trying to plan which days to do what. If MM usually happen Tue, Thurs, Sat, Sun, What do you think of this plan:

Wed 5/30-- travel day, but arriving at LAX at 9:40 a.m. I'm thinking we can check in to DLH and still have time to visit DL for afternoon and evening?

Thurs 5/31-- DL parks since it's a MM

Fri 6/1-- Should we try Hollywood or SeaWorld on this day? Originally I was thinking we'd do them on the weekend because I read that DL is busier with locals on the weekend, plus I'm thinking traffic would be a quicker trip on the weekend, even on Grayline.

Sat 6/2

Sun 6/3

Mon 6/4

Tue 6/5

Wed 6/6 Travel day--3:40 flight out of LAX, what time do we need to head toward airport using Disneyland Shuttle? Noonish?

Any advice in scheduling these days would be MUCH appreciated!

Personaly I would slip universal, it is not as good as the one in orlando, then again I do not take any time away from Disney while there :lmao:

However since you are only planning on being in DL & DCA only four days, then I would do the other trips, seaworld, universal, grayline tour etc on the weekend, since DL does get a large volume of local visitors during that time.

Looking at your days, if that where me I would be upgrading to a 5 day pass at least, since there is so much to see within the two parks.

And if you are taking the Disney shuttle to LAX yes I would plan on getting it around noon.

If it were me, and I wanted to play in LA/Hollywood, I would rent a car at LAX and spend your arrival day there. Either drop the car there and take a shuttle to DLH, or make the rental a one-way rental and drop it in Anaheim after getting to DLH.

LA is an hour+ away. San Diego is 1.5 hours away. I just wouldn't want to waste time traveling away from, then back to, Los Angeles when you could just do it that day.

The 30th is a Grad Nite day so you could probably get to DLR and get 10 hours in if things go smooth, out of the airport and into DLR.

Friday will be a good day to try either or, just be warned SW has a coaster opening a week before and it may also be busy and that coaster, Manta very busy. If you has been to SWO, that one is about the same with different rides. If you do Universal it may have a similiar problem. It's opening its Tranformers ride and it's likely to be open earlier than the official date, so this may increase crowds there. Also know it's just USH like USO no resort or IOA. With Trasnformers it willl probably be better than USO in its current state. You might decide based on which you've done in Flordia if any and which sounds better.

If you want to do DLR, SW and USH you may want to do Citypass and save some money, you can add a DL day on to it with no problem. Of course then you have to do the Grayline transportation only which isn't as good a deal.

Also look at the Grayline to Universal that stops at a couple Hollywood spots on the way back.

Looks like we will be there the exact same time!! Same hotel!
We will have a 5 day DL ticket and then 1 day we are going to Universal! Waiting on the hours to plan my days.

We've never been to Sea World Orlando or Universal Orlando. Our previous trips to Florida have been DW only.

I want to avoid driving in LA traffic as much as possible, which is why I was considering Grayline. However, I also want my kids to see some things in Cali outside of Anaheim/Disney.

I would see SW and USH if the time is available. They are both iconic in thier own rights. Not as much as DLR, but a valuable life experience.

I would suggest renting a car, so you can go at your own pace, stop where you want. Though for traffic staying away from rush hour sometimes means driving at night anyway. From the bus you can simply look out the windows. It's a give and take.
