Help me think of good songs for a 10 year old Dance Solo

Two good lyrical songs are "If Only" by Tiffany and "Only Hope". I am using both songs in my ballet classes this year. A cute up-tempo song that I am using it "Start Jumpin" by Jump 5.

I always wanted my daughters to dance to Knock On Wood! Their teacher woulkd never do it because she danced to it.

Songs I liked when my kids: Jazz

My Strongest Suit from the broadway musical Aida. This is my all time favorite and won my kids a Gold at a national comp.

Let's Hear It For The Boys from Flashdance...another favorite

Shake Your Groove Thing,

Lyrical:

Bridge Over Troubled Water (female singer, not sure who it is)
God's Will, Martina McBride

"Only Hope".

Are you talking about "Only Hope" from A Walk to Remember? I love that song! (I know all the words :teeth: )

I also like the idea of "Knock on Wood" or maybe something by No Doubt?

I choreographed a extra piece for my ballet group that were ages 9-10 that I performed with them to the Song 'Perfect Fan' by the Backstreet Boys. It's all about thanking your mom for everything she has done in your life and being there for you. The girls and I were so exicted to perform it, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I danced for 13+ years including many competitions.

Look at Linda Eder songs like Gold for lyrical or Seasons of Love from the Rent Soundtrack (Won 1st place for that one) or something like Dream On by Aerosmith for a more harsh lyrical number

My favorite is still the theme song from Footloose for a jazz/hiphop fun dance

I know hes an awful role-model and a weird person in general but Michael Jackson has good dance songs (I danced to Man in the Mirror years ago)

You Should be Dancin by The BeeGees

Knock on Wood

Baby I'm A Star (don't know who sings this)
It's Raining Men

Walking on Sunshine --either the original by Katrina and the Waves or the newer one by Aly & AJ.

Since You been Gone or Behind these Hazel Eyes --Kelly Clarkson

Wake Up-- the new Hilary Duff song

Ooh!!! I forgot about her stuff!! Big Time would be really cute when your dd gets older (it is much too old for her now), but Vienna would be another good one (lyrical).

Jump 5 and the group Play have some very cute & appropriate songs for a 10 year old girl. I use them in class all the time while I'm teaching.

What about "Teenage Drama Queen" by Lindsay Lohan from the movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. (even though I know she's not yet a teen!)

You guys have given us SO MUCH!

I cannot thank you enough.

We are still thinking and will keep you posted.
Looking at costumes as well!

Momma I'm a Big Girl now from Hairspray is a really good song. My DD is going to sing it for competition this year.

I announced a figure skating show once, one of the girls about that age did a pretty good piece to "525,600 minutes" ... not entirely sure if that's the actual title, I'm fairly sure that it's from Rent, but again, not entirely sure.

This song is indeed from Rent and called "Seasonsof Love".

Anything but Gloria Gaynor singing, "I Will Survive"! For some reason, that one shows up a lot at competitions and so forth around here. It just seems silly for younger girls.

Our finale last year was to "You Can't Stop The Beat". It was a really good choice, I thought, for a fast number. One of my favorite slower/lyrical type songs would be "Home" from Beauty and the Beast (maybe just the Broadway version--I don't watch the animated, just listen to the show CD).

Good luck! Most important, make sure she loves it--it'll be going through her head for weeks!

I don't know if you've found anything yet, but when I was at my studio last night I was listening to Disney Jam's Volume 6. I use it all the time, especially for kids your DD's age.

It has some really cute songs for her age group.

Also, what about "You Make Me Feel Like A Star"?

My DD did a lyrical routine to "Moonshadow" by Mandy Moore...really pretty song and one of my favorite routines (not solo though)

I also second the idea of "Seasons of Love" from Rent...another really pretty song.

I've seen "Let's get the party started" one too many times at competitions around here....it's been overdone but then again, I don't really care for Pink that much to begin with.
