My mom and I are going to WDW from May 11-17, 2010 and can't decide where we want to eat! We need 2 restaurants in or around MK, 1 at Epcot, and 1 in or around DHS. We have already decided we are eating at The Wave and Paradiso 37, but are not sure about the rest. Neither of us eat alot, and aren't big fans of red meat. We mostly eat salad, chicken and fish. However, we both love dessert! If you could write a little reason why you chose what you did that would be really helpful! TIA :thumbsup2

edit: we are not on the dining plan and are not looking to spend a fortune on food.

Hiya, I voted for the following

Grand Floridian Cafe
Kona Cafe (will be trying for the first time this month - heard great things)
Coral Reef (great food and theme)
50's Prime time cafe (one of my favourite's)

The only place im not fond of is Le Cellier - I felt the day we were there it was very rushed and the food was very salty. Also the smores in 50's prime time cafe are way better than Le Cellier's. Alas we will try Le Cellier again this month and will do a review. We felt as people rate it so much we should give it a second chance.

Have fun booking your adr's let us know what you choose :thumbsup2

i voted for the plaza. it has a great salad(huge) and wonderful ice cream desserts.:yay:

One vote for Coral Reef--here's why--

:love:THE WAVE DESSERT!!!:worship:

This is the BEST dessert in all of Disney. And the food, especially the NY Strip and the Catch of the Day are delicious.

I'll be enjoying this BEFORE my meal Thanksgiving week. Always room for dessert.:rotfl2:

Good to hear. I may just try now.

I voted for Kona, GF cafe, LeCellier, and 50's PT.

I have never had a bad meal at Kona. GF has a nice atomosphere and good food. LeCellier just for the soup and bread - well, there is other good food there too. 50's is fun - if you get the right waiter.

Good luck - and have fun!

The Plaza is my pick!! They have an amazing strawberry and grilled chicken salad.. great sandwiches.. and great sundaes for dessert! I have also enjoyed tony's town square.. the food is good, and its a cute location. The only one on your list i don't like it Le Cellier.. its very dim and depressing looking inside, and our food was very over salted. (and thats coming from someone who lovesss salt haha) Have a great trip!! I am taking a mother daughter trip with my mom in January, its nice to see others who do that as well!!:goodvibes

Hi there!
I'm new to posting on DIS, but am hooked on WDW - have been going & eating there since I was a child (back in the day of the dinosaur - haha!). I think you have some very good selections listed. Of your picks, favs are Le Cellier/EPCOT (excellent filet mignon, CHEDDAR SOUP & fun desserts) and 50's Prime Time/DHS (food is pretty decent & if you have a good server, very entertaining). Additionally, some of my family's favs are BOMA/not your parks-AKL (any meal, all great - also fun to explore the hotel while there), Sci-Fi for burgers and shakes at lunch (fun atmosphere), The Rose & Crown/EPCOT (fish & chips of course), and Raglan Road/DTD (great food & evening entertainment). *To note, my family has been to Coral Reef/EPCOT 3 times, 3 years in a row (we kept hoping we'd get better service) - most recently Nov08 & we've been disappointed . We're not that picky, but we've had really slooooow & kind of rude servers who weren't familiar with the menu, and loooong waits to be seated. If you decide to dine there, the aquarium is fun to watch, but it's not as good when you're seated right next to it -- you can't see as much as you can from 2nd or 3rd row back. The entrees are decent - nothing to write home about, although desserts were really tasty. I'd give them a 7 out of 10 just because of service. For MK, I'd say go for either Tony's or Plaza for reasons other readers have listed.
Have a great time in May 2010! :)

Out of principle, I never pick Le Cellier because it's way too difficult to get ADRs due to the dining plan crowd. Since you're not on the plan, I figure it's not a big deal.

I picked Grand Floridian Cafe and Kona Cafe, Rose and Crown, and 50's Prime Time. I would like to try Tutto Italia based on some amazing looking reviews with food porn photos, but the out of pocket price keeps me from trying it.

The only ones that I have been to on your list are Le Cellier and Coral Reef. Le Cellier is hard to get and overrated IMO. We tried Coral Reef out last year and were disappointed with or meal.

We enjoyed Chefs de France at Epcot and really loved Narcoossees at GF.

At DHS I have only eaten at Brown Derby And SciFi. SciFi was okay, fun for the atmosphere, but have always enjoyed Brown Derby.

Love Grand Floridian Cafe--it's a lovely resort to visit and so convenient to get to on the Monorail line and it has a very pretty dining room. Good menu selection, too.

Enjoy the ambience of Rose and Crown-sitting outside by the water is very pleasant. One of the more relaxing meals, I think.

Ditto Le Chefs---It's like being in a Parisian cafe. Plus the creme brulee is to die for.

Lastly, 50's Primetime can be an experience!!! If you luck into a server who is into the roll, it's a lot of fun. Be aware that the portions are large so if you go there, you may want to share an entree if you are not a big eater.:wizard:

I'm not a huge LeCellier fan. Don't like the dining room (like eating in my basement <G>) and had consistantly subpar service on two visits. Food is just "OK". If you have a decent steakhouse near you, no doubt you can get better beef at home.:goodvibes

Have fun planning.

:thumbsup2 ITA with Rosie - esp about LC! (and the price at Tutto)

Just read a dining review from GFC - their lunch looked very good! Liberty Tree Tavern gets good reviews also for Lunch - for Dinner - hands down Kona Cafe - good food, great atmosphere - take the boat from MK over to Polynesian - its fun, relaxing - then after dinner go back to the beach to watch WISHES!! (and if you like adult beverages - you must try the Polynesian's Lupu Lupu - rum and juice in a pineapple! :thumbsup2)

I picked Coral Reef over BriarRosie's R&C - simply because I love the atmosphere at CR - loved the Creme Brullee - and the filet mignon - at R&C we didnt get good service AT ALL - and I cant remember the dessert!

For DHS - have you looked at the menus on allears.net? Mama Melrose was ok we had their Fantasmic pkg - and tho we enjoyed the food we were very upset at the service - a party of 6 got our waiter's attention, or table of 3 was ignored - 2 1/2 hours was ridiculous! Brown Derby is a must do - but again its a 2TS - so you may think about taking the boat over to the Boardwalk and either trying Kouzzina (Cat Coral's new restaurant), Yachtsman is a 2TS, and the Cape May Buffet has lots of great food choices when we were there! ( or just head back to Epcot for another adr there!! )

We ate at Mama Melrose a few years ago and loved it, but recently I've read mixed reviews. I think we're going to try 50's Prime Time but if happens to be that Fantasmic fits in our schedule, we'll probably be at Mama Melrose. We ate at Cape May Cafe for dinner in November and it was our favorite meal of our trip! But since we were just there, we want to try some new places.
