We (myself, DH, DD 6) are starting our trip at the Grand Californian will be there from June 17-22
then we are heading down to San Diego and staying at Paridise Point Resort 22-27 then we are going up to Carlsbad for Legoland 27-30

We are trying to decide on Park Hyatt Aviara Resort or Grand Pacific Palisades Resort

I have a GREAT rate at both so price doesn't come into play.

Are the rates similiar, because I would expect the Hyatt to be a lot more. maybe 50% or %100 more. I've walked around it and it looks spectacular.

I've looked into staying at the Grand Pacific. It's close but not super close to LL, certainly not like the GCH to DCA or DL. Some rooms have a great view over the flower fields and to the ocean, a few to see a tiny bit of LL. It does have a kids splash, play area.

Consider that you are staying at Paradise Point first do you need something where you can see the ocean again, or is fun for the kid, or something luxurious.

Thanks for responding---The rates are $4 apart---We get the goverment discount at the Hyatt so we are paying $131 and they are waving the resort fees and Gand Pacific is $135 and is also waving the fees.
I think we are going to go with the Hyatt--just seems to be a nicer hotel thoughts?
Paradise Point is for the stay in San Diego and I know it isn't too far away, but we were thinking that we are going to do Legoland one day and then the other day the legoland water park and since we are leaving out of LAX it is a little closer. We were just thinking that staying in Carlsbad it would save a little driving time. We could add the days to the Paradise Point stay as well so that could be a idea too.

I'd lean toward the Hyatt because it's nicer overall, though if you want to use it's services they aren't cheap.

I think saving some time driving to LL twice will be nice, but is it worth switching into another hotel?

The water park has shorter hours than LL. What I would suggest is hitting rides early each morning, and doing the water park when it opens or late afternoon. The water park isn't big and gets crowded quickly. Then after hit a few more rides. You may want to do both days like this.
