I've a room reserved for next weekend at the Tropicana for $209/night. I'm going to see the Bon Jovi concert, but it's also Nascar weekend so all of the prices are much higher than they would normally be.

I started reading hotel reviews and saw that the Tropicana appears to be sort of outdated. So, I went digging through the AAA website and found that I could get the Monte Carlo for $40 more total or the MGM for $57 more total.

The concert is at the MGM. It's just me (28) and a friend (32) travelling. Since we're already paying so much...I'm tempted to just pay the extra $$ and upgrade to the MGM.

What would you do???

For convienance sake alone stay at the MGM. It's a nice hotel and near a lot of other hotels for casino hopping and exploring.

It's vegas...you only use the room for sleep why pay more?

That's just me though, I know alot of people who pay more for rooms so you wouldn't be the first.

Me personally though, I am in there for 5 hours of sleep and that is it 19 hours of the day are away from there so I don't seee paying more.

Check out imperial palace or even excalibur they may be cheaper but are easily accessable to MGM

The Excalibur is the same price as the Tropicana and the Imperial Palace is booked. Lots of the cheaper, off strip places are booked.
I think my feeling is that, if I'm spending $200+/night that I might as well feel like I'm staying in a place that is worth it.
Right now I have both reserved...I always do this! Everything is all set and I have to go looking around to see if there's anything better out there. I get more of a rush from shopping for hotels than I do actually gambling!

The topicana is 500 yards from the MGM, so I think the "Location" thing is a wash!I like the Trpoicana....it is much smaller, has a great pool, great acrobat acts, and a great coffee shop. We like walking through MGM on uour way to and from the tropicana.....but it is too huge to stay there!

you can use that $57 a night for food or extra gambling.

stay at the cheaper rate!

I would only stay at the Trop if you'r ein a tower room. The garden rooms look like the ghetto!

Between MGM and Monte Carlo, I would choose MC. It's smaller, nicer and has a lazy river! :teeth: It's across the street catty-corner to MGM, so it's convenient for the concert. MGM is just sooo big. Depending on where your room is, it can take you 15-20 minutes easily to get from the front of the hotel to your room.

Since the concert is at MGM, I'd book my room there! Otherwise I'd take the $57 you save and spend it at the M.A.C counter in the Caesar's Palace mall. :teeth:

I love Vegas. I go several times a year and have stayed everywhere. Yes the Trop is not the Bellagio but it's nice with clean rooms and a great location on the south strip, a great pool and it's across the street from the EX and the Luxor, MGM etc. The Trop also has a great pool. Is it my first choice? No, but it's a decent choice. Get the tower room. The Garden rooms are something to avoid like the plague btw.

LOL, we have stayed in garden rooms for the last two years over spring break. My teenage DD loves them ! They are very tack 70's hawaiian condo decor, and even have huge mirrors over the beds,we just giggle and enjoy the experience! But, it wouldn't work if you weren't in the right frame of mind!
