Help me pick a place to go! *Update on Pg. 3!!

I have not read the whole thread but have you tried cheapcaribbean.com for specials? Out of your list, I would go to Turks. Have fun!

Key West does not have any direct flights from NY. You have to fly into an airport and then take a "puddle jumper" type plane.

OK, I just looked into Sandals and it is way over the budget. I also looked into the cruises leaving out of NYC, but non leave out of there in May.

I am off to check out cheapcaribbean.com, thanks!

Oh, no! DH will not go for that! No "puddle jumper" planes for him!:rotfl:
He is finally able to fly in a regular plane without being drugged! ;)

We did the Sandals in the Bahamas and it was great! Since you only have a weekend, I would want to stay somewhat close. This resort is a super short flight and you never have to leave...well, except to go home. ;)

The Bahamas as a destination is a good idea. They have lots of hotels to choose from that aren't as expensive as Sandals.

Me again! It is a very nice drive to get to the Keys from Miami...it is long though...maybe 5ish hours. I have never done that but I heard it is breathtaking at sunset!

You can fly to the nearest "big" airport and then rent a car and drive down to the Keys. It is a beautiful, amazing drive and if you have a convertible and it's warm...well, I think that would be a really nice start to a romantic weekend!!! It just sounds fun...

And you don't have to go all the way down to Key West. Look up Florida Keys and see what resorts are along the way - there are several that are inclusive and lovely.

Also, I think Charleston and/or Savannah are great choices, too.

Another great choice would be Asheville, NC. Biltmore House, great shopping, great art community with lots of fun and funky shopping, cool restaurants, plenty of outdoor activities if you like to hike, etc. Loads to do in the Asheville area and you can fly into Asheville and rent a car for the weekend. By May it will be warm enough to leave heavy coats behind but it won't be too hot.

Quebec City you better know your french I go there a few times a year and I always get people who don't speak english (thanksfully I speak French!)
Las Vegas, second Key West, second San Diego and San francisco

Of your choices I'd go with Quebec City. It is on my short list for future trips and looks like it would be a great place to visit. It's as close as you'll get to a European city in the eastern half of the continent.
I just went there for Thanksgiving. It was beautiful in the snow. I'll bet it would be even better in the spring.

Of course I am partial to New Orleans where I have a second home. I don't think I would pick Jazz Festival as a romantic trip though. Great time but everything is going to be crowded.

This is VERY true. Luckily I know enough French to get by, but I flew with pilots once who, the next afternoon said their cab driver didn't even know the word "beer" when they tried to find a bar to watch the hockey game and eat! :rotfl:

And Vegas is a GREAT weekend trip. My husband and I used to do this often!

This is becoming more difficult than I would have imagined!
We don't speak French, at all! so now I am second guessing Quebec City!
I have been checking out all the suggestions here and it is very hard keeping this trip on our budget of $1500 because of the airfare to some of these places!

Google Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY, I believe. It's lovely - this was our first weekend retreat without dd14, when she was just a baby). Not cheap, but no airfare needed, and includes meals, I believe. Also, DH and I love New Hope PA (our favorite B & B is right in the center of the action). Nice restaurants, bars, shopping, great bike bath along the river/canal, tubing, canoeing... I have a gc waiting to be spent, actually! Our go-to place is Porches on the Towpath (or something like that).

Let me help!
Ou est le salle de bains (very important hahaha)
Je ne parle pas le Francais, je parle l'anglais!

If you have a french english dictionary to look up certain things it should be ok. But like even going to McDonalds I always had to order in French after trying English.

I really would suggest Las Vegas airfare is usually pretty cheap, there's lots to see. Some of the strip hotels like Excalibur and the Luxor have some inexpensive rooms. Or the Jockey Club (beside the Bellagio) is a condo style place with a full kitchen and seperate living room and bedroom for 84 a month.

San francisco is really nice and has some really nice boutique style hotels. I seriously could sit in Golden Gate park all day with the man I love there is so many beautiful gardens etc!

Quebec City is very romantic and there's a lot to do for dining and activities. Stay at the Chateau Frontenac!

You don't have to be able to speak French, especially in hotels restaurants and tourist attractions. Wear a little American flag pin or identify yourself as an American tourist, you'll be fine.

Another place you could consider is The Balsams in the White Mountains of NH:

I also like Newport RI.

I think flying to Florida or New Orleans or the West coast is too much airport/airplane time eating into a long weekend but that's just me.

Have you considered Bermuda? It's only a couple of hours flight from NYC.

Just bring a pocket guide and be polite. The one phrase to learn is do you speak English in their language but this is true of wherever you go abroad. I managed two weeks in Italy knowing about 20 words in Italian total and will be in France and Germany later this year knowing no more French or German.

You all have helped so much! Thank you all, again!
We have researched all the places mentioned and have been trying to decide where to go but kept on having issues with almost all of them! But, we finally decided where to go and you'll never guess where.;) Disney World!!!!! Ok, I know some of you are like, what? Are they crazy? But we have our reasons.

We can fly out of our local airport which is 20 mins. away, directly to Orlando for $600 roundtrip for the 2 of us! The plane ride is only 2 and a half hours!

We can go and be on budget of $1500, using the spring discount.

It is somewhere we love, but without the kids it is a total different trip, and yes we have done it before without them. 3 times actually.:)

We can have nice restaurants, rent a boat, lay on a beach, enjoy the pool, go to a spa, etc....

So, we will either try the Yacht Club for the first time, or Saratoga Springs to be close to DtD and the spa.
This just works out better for us since we only have 3 nights.
Thanks again everyone!

Really? After all of the wondeful romantic cities given you choose Disney? Branch out. There are millions of other magical, romantic places out there. Try someplace new. You won't regret it. :thumbsup2

Well that was short lived!:lmao: I guess it wasn't meant to be! My mom who was suppose to watch our kids just told us she can't do it! So, luckily we have a close friend who babysits our kids and has watched them over night in the past. She is able to do it, so we decided to not go too far away. It actually works out well because now the kids get to stay at our house and we don't need to find a sitter for the dog!

So now we are goig to Newport, Ri!!! It is where we spent our 10 year wedding anniversary 4 years ago and we loved it there. It is about a 3 and a half hour drive. We will only be spending 2 nights but anytime away alone with DH is better than none!

Thanks again everyone!!!
