Help me Narrow Down my Dining Choices!

A little background-- I will have two 3yo and 7yo girls at the time of our trip. I'm trying to narrow down our ADRs to 7 total for our trip, one per day. We will be in Universal one day of our 8 day trip. We are staying at the CR.

I'd like to MAYBE narrow our list from 9 to 7 ADRs and like the appeal of both CRT and Chef Mickey's for the character interaction... here's our list.. which two would you eliminate?

We will also be doing BBB so having a fun themed meal after that is a must (was thinking either CRT or BOG). Here's my picks:

Ohana- dinner—must do—our favorite

CRT- breakfast—have done

BOG- dinner—have done

Rose and Crown—dinner—haven’t had in over 10 years

50’s Prime Time or Sci Fi—dinner

San Angel Inn—dinner—haven’t had since a child

California Grill—dinner- never tried

Chef Mickey’s—breakfast

Yak and Yeti—dinner—never tried

I would pass on 50s Prime Time and do Crystal Palace breakfast instead of CRT since you have done that already. San Angel was just OK last time we were there. I would do a counter service in Epcot instead. Are you bringing kids to CG? The fireworks are amazing but I did not many kids there (we did go at 9:00 tho). Enjoy!

I haven't been to Chef Mickey's, but every single review I have ever read is negative. Apparently the food is horrendously bad. If you're looking for those characters in particular (the Fab 5), how about Tusker House at Animal Kingdom instead? Tusker House might sound exotic, but it has something for everyone.

Just a warning that our experience with California Grill is that it is a longer meal - in our experience it is not your typical WDW restaurant where you are always aware they are trying to get you in and out as fast as possible. It is also the one restaurant we have been to on property where kids were clearly in the minority. The kids I have seen there, however, have been VERY well behaved and I was very impressed. Your kiddos might do just fine at a longer dinner at the end of a tiring day at the parks but just wanted to make you aware that it isn't the typical WDW TS restaurant.

Rose and Crown is someplace I can take or leave. The food is good but it isn't anything terribly memorable for me or someplace that I just can't wait to get back to.

yak and yeti is excellent, if you enjoy Asian food. I really like the atmosphere of San
Angel Inn. I agree with pp that Tusker House is a better choice over Chef Mickey. Also agree that CG can me a very long meal. Was there in May, and granted we saw fireworks while there, but it was a three hour meal.

It's helpful to know if your preference is food, ease of getting to a certain park, or the food. Not mentioned above my favorite is Boma anything if you are looking for a buffet and tasty variety of food, Ohana and Boma and Tusker all offer something unique and different but Boma does not have characters

I would eliminate BOG and Rose and Crown. BOG because you have already done it and the food does not live up to the hype for me. Rose and Crown because the food is just okay - not bad but not great.

Yak and Yeti is a must. Amazing food and was in and out in under and hour.

Chec Mickey I haven't done but have only read awful things about it. My aunt wants to do it but I'm pushing for Ohana.

BOG breakfast was awful. Haven't tried dinner. It's on the list though.

50s Prime Time Cafe- I don't like. I'm the only one that has issues with this place. My family loves it though. But I personally wouldn't suggest eating here. We are going to try the Sci Fi Dine In Theater next time we go though.

The rest I haven't been to. Sorry

Skip San Angel Inn. Truly awful imo. I've also been seeing a lot of negative reviews on it recently.

Thanks everyone. Def thinking we're skipping CG... three hours is more than I want to do for dinner while in WDW...

I've done Chef Mickey several years back and don't remember it being that terrible, but maybe will switch to Tusker House instead. We have done breakfast there! Do they offer character dining at lunch/dinner?

Rose and Crown is somewhat nostalgic for me-- it was my Dad's favorite, who passed away. Also ate there on our honeymoon after getting drenched in a rainstorm so good, crazy memories! We haven't gone in a while so kind of want to revisit for those reasons.

We are foodies when dining sans kids, but with two small kids am looking for reasonable expectations, LOL. Want to cover the princesses and the fab five with character dining since that's always worked well for us in the past. I plan on planning our dinner to correspond with our park schedule.

FYI tusker house does not have Minnie. Not sure how important she is for your family but for my DD 4 Minnie is the most important of the fab 5.

We did not like Sci Fi theater. It was dark, we could barely see our food, and my 3 and 5 yr old were sitting in front of us so we weren't looking at each other. The movie clips playing were ok, but nothing my kids would like.

Not a big fan of yak and yeti here. We have much better Asian food options here at home and my husband thought his portion was too small. (Although mine was plenty.) if I had to choose I'd take out that one and either San Angel or 50s Prime time.

Oh, but I think California Grill will be so nice if you're staying at the Contemporary. Have you considered child care services? I don't have children, so know nothing about them.

I like Rose and Crown better than San Angel, and I like your little bit of nostalgia. And I'm assuming you're only planning one evening in Epcot.

And I think the CRT breakfast vs. BOG dinner decision will depend on your BBB timing, right?

So I would cut 2 of those 4: Rose and Crown vs. San Angel, CRT vs. BOG

I would scratch Chef Mickey's for sure! We enjoyed it on our first visit 5 years ago, but our next visit it was horrible! The buffet was a mess, the floor was so sticky my daughter walked out of her sandals, and the food was cold and just not good at all! Go for Tusker House or Garden Grill instead.

California Grill was a fabulous meal for us! It is definitely more of an adult restaurant. Our dinner was quite long but we went out to the balcony for fireworks in between courses. You can go back later for fireworks with your receipt if you have an earlier adr.

With kids I would skip San Angel. I might be wrong, but we've never done it as it appears more authentic Mexican than my kids like. If it's not doused in sour cream they don't want it. I like Rose and Crown and would keep that, but I love English food, so that's probably a personal preference thing. I, personally, also wouldn't do California Grill with little kids. Just at that price, I would just rather wait until they are older, or for a date night. At their age I would still keep Chef Mickeys! They will love it, and for breakfast, I think the food will be "fine" enough. We're planning on Chef Mickey's for an upcoming trip. Most people do seem to prefer breakfast over dinner, and every time someone asks if it's really "that bad" lots of people chime in with recent good experiences. Oh, and 50's is my favorite. LOVE the food there, it's one place we always eat.

Unless you really loved your BOG dinner, I would get rid of that one. It's never a priority for us, but I always recommend trying it once.

For the second one I would either get rid of San Angel or Rose & Crown.
