Help me make Mickey pancakes!!

When we were in WDW last week we bought a blue Mickey mold to make pancakes (at least I was told that's what it's for) at the home store in DTD. We tried to make breakfast for dinner tonight with Mickey pancakes. I don't get it. I put the mold in the pan, poured the batter into the mold, let it harden a little, and then went to pull the mold off so I could flip it over. The mold was WAY too hot to grab, so I started rummaging through my kitchen for something to pull it off with. I finally just flipped the whole thing, and then when it was done, I couldn't get the pancake out of the mold. Am I doing it wrong? Did I buy the wrong mold? Should I have greased it up more first? I know they had a pack of black ones that said they were for eggs. These were sold individually, and I was told by the clerk that they were for pancakes. We feel like total idiots, help

I don't have that mold so I can't help you with it, but I make Mickey pancakes by just pouring in three circles. You have to eyeball it, but it's pretty easy.

I'll have to look at that mold whenever I'm at Disney next. Sounds like it would be a great thing, if only it would work for you.

I wish I could help you! I bought the blue mold and the red mold in May of 2002 and we still can't figure out a good way to do it! I've used tongs but then when I take the mold off to flip it, it tends to lose shape or an ear gets stuck or something!

Here's hoping someone knows how to use these properly!

I bought the black metal mickey head it has a little wooden handle to pull it up, the samething happened to me, when I went to flip them, it got stuck and mickey lost 1 ear. then I tryed spraying pam on them, better but deformed. I find it easyer to pour 3 circles(like mentioned above).

I don't have the mold I just pour 3 circles like the others. I was going to suggest spraying the mold with a pam type product but ithat didn't seem to work for Disneyworld!. What if you put a little oil in the mix, as if yu were making waffles? I don't know really just guessing. Good luck.

When I use a pancake mold (any kind) I spray with PAM really really well to the point of dripping. Then pour the batter and then flip it with the mold intact. Once the other side hardens a bit, then I pull it off with tongs.

Another way I sometimes use the mold is to make regular round pancakes then use the mold like a cookie cutter after the pancake is done.

It's just so much easier making three circles though.

FINALLY - something I actually know about!!!

Ok, SPRAY the mold. Make sure your batter is a little runnier than usual and that the griddle is really HOT. Only pur in enough batter to make a thin pancake. If you try to fill the old completely it will never work. Use a rubber spatula to separate the pancake from the edge. Pull the mold off before flipping, and VOILA!

I made Mickey pancakes last night. I bought the Mickey cookie making set from Michael's. It comes with the black Mickey head cookie cutter.

I place the Mickey shaped cutter on the griddle and pour the batter into it. When it's set on the bottom side, I gently shake the cutter and the pancake comes right out. Then, you just flip it to cook the other side. I didn't spray it with Pam and it worked fine. Next time, I'll spray it and see if it's easier.

I was in DTD last week & bought molds for making Mickey pancakes, too!

I bought the egg ones, though. Figured it would be easier w/ the handle. I haven't tried them out yet, though. Now I'm anxious to see how well they work

Duh! I never thought of just making three circles. I did spray with Pam, but I think maybe I made them too thick. I'll have to try the three circles. Pancakes again for dinner anyone? I wish I could just pull the mold off, but it's really HOT. I should have bought the egg ones with the handles. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks everyone!
