I have only flown a few times and haven't flown at all in over 10 years. How should I go about findest the best prices for flights. I could fly out of Huntsville Alabama, Birminghame Alabama, or Atlanta, Georgia. Where should I start trying to find a flight for April 20th roundtrip nonstop. Thanks for any help.

For starters, I'd go with Airtran from Atlanta. There are three airports in DC, Dulles (IAD), National (DCA) and Baltimore (BWI). The cheapest is almost always BWI, because Southwest flies there, and the competition keeps the prices low. Try to pair ATL with BWI using Airtran. Otherwise, try to pair Birmingham with BWI using Southwest. Oh, and don't forget about Richmond, VA as an alternate airport for Washington DC. It's only an hour's drive to DC. I think Jet Blue flies into Richmond?

Sidestep.com is also a good resource for booking tickets and seeing all the carriers' prices in one matrix. Southwest, of course, you have to price separately using their own website once you know other carriers' prices.

Good luck!

Check iflyswa.com for a flight from Birmingham to Baltimore - right now the rates are pretty reasonable for that time. (My brother-in-law has family in the DC area and takes the SouthWest flight quite frequently.)

Richmond airport is at least two hours from Washington. I drive to one of my company's office buildings next to the airport from Washington often and it takes two to two and a half hours depending on traffic.

Delta is usually a good source of in expensive flights from Atlanta because Atlanta is one of thri hubs. I have gotten decent flights out of DCA (Reagan National) on several occassions on Delta.

if you are going for a tourist visit then I'd fly directly into Dulles or Reagan. BWI although physically close to DC takes several hours of heavy traffic driving to get to DC, unless it's saving you in the $100+ range, forget BWI.

Airtran appears to be in the $120 range already.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I will go to work to try to find a great deal.

Richmond is really not an option when flying into D.C. Way too much traffic! BWI isn't much better and can be quite a haul depending on what part of D.C. you are traveling to.

Try www.kayak.com or www.sidestep.com for good fares. You will most likely get the cheapest fares out of ATL with either Delta or AirTran.
