...my blisters. Yeah not so interesting, but I figured this would be the place to ask as I’m sure you all (especially the runners) have gotten blisters on your feet before.

My question is… what can I do to stop getting them? Moleskin doesn’t work on my feet, it doesn’t stick, and I don’t really know what else to try (two layers of socks is no longer an option). I pretty much get blisters any time I do an abnormal amount of walking (i.e. more then down the hall, across the street and around school). I get them all over my feet (back of ankle/toes/anywhere the shoe touches my foot… *sight*), no one place, and so now that I’m walking a lot more (tis my cardio ya know) my feet always hurt! Not that that stops me of course, because I’m so use to it by now that I’m like… ‘Yes in pain, but… must… walk.’

I guess I’m also a little worried that the blisters could get infected. The city I live in is not very clean, and the thought of getting within 10 feet of the bottom of my shoes truly scares me sometimes. It’s like… what’s that commercial… 409 because the worlds not ready for 410? Well my shoes need the 415 some days.

So I’m hoping someone out there has some advice on something I could try yes? Because, not only does limping hurt, but it’s unattractive too. Though… I could always go for the sympathy vote…

Thanks in advance for all your help!
(sorry it's so long)

I use Wright socks. They are double layer wicking. I get them at both my local running store and REI.

for 1/2 marathons (and my 1st full) I added vaseline :) my friend who has blister issues asked a wonderful guy (who's wife roams the DIS halls lol) if he had a suggestion for avoiding blisters and he recommended vaseline. you could probably try bodyglide which i use & love but have never tried it on my feet.

i would recommend checking into different socks for running/walking. not just 2 pairs of socks but give a try to either the double layered or see what other socks your local running store suggest. or a light application of vaseline but go easy on the vaseline. it never quite leaves the socks and it's a dirt magnet so even once washed they still feel kinda odd and become dirt stained.

i went a bit nuts using the vaseline each time i was going out because my shoes were bothering me, silly me I needed to replace them. when i did i still continued to use the vaseline. now i only use it for the long races themselves and not for training. but i've actually not gotten a blister just very warm spots.

check out the different socks that are on the market. each person has their own faves. when i started the guy who has helped me pick my shoes suggested i try the Wright socks. the last time i saw him at the store and i picked up a pair of Wright he teased me about it saying some actually find they can get blisters. to which i reminded it was HIS suggestion i try the Wright ones. I like my Wright socks. I don't get blisters, they work well and what works well stays ;) I would suggest the local running store for the socks though as I'm quite happy with my brand and not in touch with what else is offered.

Also the socks you use did you wear them when trying on your shoes? If I were to wear thicker socks than my Wrights I might have issues since my Wrights are still quite thin and the latest pairs I've been getting are even thinner than the ones I started with.

Good luck and I hope you find something that works well for you.

if you go the vaseline path, you might want to try a paper towel to apply it. applying it with bare hands is just a horrible mess LOL

Thanks for the info! I'll look into those socks, they sound good, and the vaseline. I'm really ready to do about anything. Some days I think it would hurt less to just cut my feet off. Which would be so not of the good. Thank you again!

I found that by getting fitted for shoes along with wicking socks stopped the blisters. I do use BodyGlide on one spot if walking longer as it just seems to be the spot one will form if any are going to.

Hope you find something that works!
