I have flown only a handful of times and all of those times everything was handled by a travel agent. The last time I have flown was for my first and last Disney visit 10 years ago!! So it's definitely time for me to head back.. Now we are planning my 8 year olds first visit and I am beyond excited. I keep going back and forth between Spirit and Southwest prices. Spirit just came out with a 35off coupon good now til Monday. So the overall price is cheaper than Southwest; however that was before baggage fees. I was trying to book and once I add just one carryon bag it adds 70 to the total. I am hoping I can pack everything in one carryon and then it says you can have one other small item that can fit under your seat. So my park bag and purse would take of that. So after baggage fees and again if I end up having one checked bag it will be higher, the price is only 100 cheaper than Southwest. I started to book and I backed out to price southwest one more time. So for me and my son, southwest is 565 and I know for a fact I can get everything in 2 checked bags and carryons which is free with southwest and not have to worry about extra fees. Would you book Southwest for peace of mind? The reviews for Spirit are horrible. Normally I wouldn't put so much weight in reviews but after reading the same story over and over I have got to believe most of it has got to be true.

I fly southwest all the time and love them,I have also flown Spirit and have nothing bad to say about them but I would choose southwest in this case you have no Idea what you may want to purchase to bring home and you could become limited because of space. Also southwest prices change often and I always seem to find the best price on Tues. good luck have fun.

There are travelers who benefit by Spirit's business model. I don't feel you would be one of them. Yes, they might be cheaper, but have you added up ALL your fees? Don't forget to pay to select your seat, because I'm sure you'll want to sit next to your child.

I wouldn't consider Spirit flying with my family, unless I was saving $2-300. SW will suit you so much better. Don't forget to purchase EBCI for at least your child and one adult.
