I saw on Buydig.com that the Olympus 40-150mm lens is on sale for $109 with free shipping. I'm currently only using the 14-42 kit lens. I'm looking to get the 70-300 lens and eventually will but the buydig deal seems too good to pass up.

I mostly shoot portraits, outdoor scenes, some sports, travel and Disney of course. Would the 40-150 focal lengths be useful for those subjects?

Thanks!!

I would certainly think so. That would be the equivalent of an 80-300mm lens on a full frame camera. Personally, I tend to shoot at the long (tele) end and use my 70-300vr (105-450mm equivalent) a lot more than the 18-135 (27-203mm equivalent) lens. I think you will find that the subject-isolation characteristics of a longer focal length will be useful.

The 40-150 is an amazingly small and light lens for the focal length and has great optics for a "kit"-level lens comparable to the 14-42. The 70-300 definitely isn't small, I'd probably still want the 40-150 even if I had the 70-300 but that's a judgement call.

After thinking about it I agree. That $109 price is just too good to pass up and buydig has good customer ratings and has been endorsed by a few people on here.

I bought my E520 from Circuit City and I knew I wanted both lenses. (I'm coming from a superzoom camera, so I knew I would want a longer lens.) They're running a special where you buy the camera with the 14-42 lens and you can get a free starter kit (bag, battery, UV filter, lens cleaning cloth) for free and the 40-150 lens for $100 more.

I put the camera in my cart ($599.97) then added the free starter kit and the $100 lens. The total came to --- $649.97.:confused3 But hey, I wasn't arguing. I wasn't going to pass that up! So I'm very happy with my purchase.:goodvibes Hopefully, I can post my first pics next week.

It's a great deal. I was lucky to get it last year as a 2 lens kit with my Olympus 410. I have not used it since I got the 50mm and the 70-300. I will have to get it out this weekend.

I got the two kit lenses and use that one a lot. I agree it's very light with good optics. I'd definitely get it. :thumbsup2

A friend of mine has the 70-300 and (though I'd like to get one myself sometime) it's surprsingly large and heavy.

I ordered it last night :cool1: I should have it sometime next week!!!

While I'd still like to get the 70-300 at some point I think my next lens will be a 30mm or 50mm prime. I better start throwing out those Christmas hints :rotfl:
