Both DH and I said we would NEVER go on a cruise (I'm very afraid of deep water-thank my parents for letting me see Jaws at the age of 8). WDW sent me their 2000 vacation video and along with it came a small
DCL brochure. DD (2 at the time) liked to look at it because of all the characters. Well, onr day I decided to read it cover to cover. After that I was very curious about going. What convinced me to talk to DH was we had 3 year old twins and the vacation options were very limited. I felt the boat was only so big, so we wouldn't get as exhausted as the parks, and if there was a meltdown we were only an elevator ride back to the cabin vs. being on the far side of some park. Also, the thought of sending the kids to the club (even for 1 hour) to have some alone time sounded good. Also, DH isn't a beach person, so I figured he'd never agree to vacation in the Caribbean, so we'd get a taste of the islands without being stuck there. DH reluctantly agreed (the springtime magic offer didn't hurt either). DH is a computer programmer for a large company and is under a LOT of stress and works outrageous amount of hours. Well, we went March 2001 on the 7 day cruise. That was the most relaxed I've seen DH in 3 years!!! No computer, no e-mail, no pager, no cell phone. Just our family together. It was a vacation of a lifetime! DH worked a lot of hours the summer of 2001 and I proposed going on the 4 day cruise Sept 2001 thinking he would balk at the idea. Well, we went again Sept 2001 and then spent 2 days at WDW. Just as much fun at the last, but the 4 day is too short after going on the 7 day. Well, we received a recent cruiser promo letter in Oct 2001 offering special pricing that included dates for the new Western Itinerary. Once again, I presented it to DH and guess what, we're going May 11, 2002! So, we are a family who said we would NEVER sail and we will be going on our 3rd cruise within 14 months.
As for things to do, DH and I won 2nd place in a music trivia contest, we played bingo, watched some of the best stage shows ever, played in the waves with our kids in St. Thomas and CC, felt pampered like never before in my life, sat by the adult pool in the hot tub admiring Nassau...it would take hours for me to list all the wonderful things our family has experienced. Hope you can convince DH to go. He won't regret it for 1 moment!!!
