Help me choose for a photo contest

I could use some help on trying to pick one of four choices here:

It's for the Iowa State Fair and the catagory is "Iowan's love a fair"

To be completely honest, I think all but the last one have too much going on in the backgrounds to clearly draw interest to the subject.

wow we agree again i thought the same thing..
i'd like 1 if you didn't see the fence and people behind it so clearly..i like the idea of 4 but the rain looks a little bit smootch on the sensor or something. so maybe my fav would be 2 if you can isolate the girl with the ribbon even though her horse isn't looking the right way, not sure what the rules are but maybe you could lighten that one some to show better detail on the girl and her horse and blur the stuff behind them? do you have another with the horse looking forward so you see him better? i really like the ribbons on her pockets and that = "fair" to me. even if you cropped out the guy in the red shirt and the lamps etc, it would be less distracting.
i've taken some like 3 every year wanting to get the "chaos crowd effect" and never like the way they turn out...i think maybe they need a really obvious focal point with just a hint of the crowd, i was thinking this yr of trying maybe a night shot with a lit sign with blurred crowd? ie if the dino just had legs dangling out of his mouth or something :0

the contest is "Iowans love a fair", although I like the horse pics, how do you know they are from a fair, it could be some horse or rodeo contest. Pic #3 looks like a fair, and it seems like alot of people are there, so it seems like it goes w/ the contest best IMO.

I see your point, but IMO, the judges are probably intimately familiar with that fair and would recognize the location and settings.

Its a tough call... #1 is grump old men... #2 and #4 are a rain shot... #3 is a crowd shot at a fair.... If those are the only ones I have to pick from I have to say #3.... Though I think #4 is the better picture... the problem is that it is raining and the guy doesn't look that happy... I only wish #3 had someone smiling and happy that you could see...
