You may want to calculate the cost of your paid for room vs. the cost to purchase a dining plan and see which works best for you.
I've only stayed at an All Star resort once as a chaperone for a large group of students and I agree with Chuck S. My concern was the number of groups that didn't seem to control their students well. They seemed to be everywhere, up at all hours and were trying to outdo each other for volume. It only takes one or two out of control groups to make it seem as if the entire resort is under siege even if the majority are well behaved.
I'm glad to know that the Pop resorts are usually not for groups. I'll keep that information in mind for a value resort option. When driving, we usually stay off-site the nights prior to check in and after checkout.
