I really want to eat at a RC, would be my first time there but I don't know if we should go to the one at AK or Downtown Disney? Is there much of a difference in the restaurants? Which is better? More to see / buy?

Thanks so much in advance!

As far as the resturants are concerned there is no difference. They are set up the same inside with the same amount of gift store items. With that said it is usually easier to get into the one at the Animal Kingdom, it tends to be less crowded than the one at Downtown Disney. If you want to make reservations here is the information:

For the one at Animal Kingdom you can call 407-938-9100 for same day reservation (or just stop by the podium) For advanced reservation you used to be able to call 407-WDW-DINE but I am not seeing that listed anymore (it's worth a try though) AK Rainforest hours are: Breakfast 8:30am-10:00am, Lunch/Dinner: 10:30am until 1/2 hour after park closing.

For the one at Downtown Disney you can call 407-827-8500 for advanced reservation...for same day you can make reservation by calling the same number (407-827-8500) but they only accept them until 4pm...after 4pm day off is walk in only. DTD Rainforest hours are: Lunch: 11:30am-4:30pm everyday, Dinner 5pm-11pm (Sun-Thurs) and 5pm-midnight (Fri-Sat)

You can now make reservations at Rainforest Cafe at DTD, we have one for there on April 29. But you have to go through Rainforest Cafe and not Disney Dining, using the phone # listed in the above post.

I would make a ressie for the one at DTD. Be prepared , the service is notoriously slooowww at RFC, so I wouldn't recommend going to the one at AK as this will take away your time at the park.

I've been to the Rainforest cafe where I live and one other one but can't remember where. It's a chain restaurant so they are all the same. You mainly go for the decor and environment. The food isn't that great..

I found the service at the Rainforest at AK to be extremely slow. Since the AK closes early to begin with we felt it took away a large chunk of our park time.

We enjoyed the one at DTD more - but it gets very busy - be prepared.

last time we were there the service was better and the place was cleaner at AK. At DTD they were utterly disorganized--screwed up all the orders, couldn't deal with a straightforward food allergy.

We enjoy the atmosphere, but were not impressed by food or service at either, frankly, after multiple visits. We decided that firing up the car and going to bahama breeze was a much better option.

We were there in March (before Easter) and they wouldn't book anything more than 24 hours ahead. When I tried to get a PS for the following day, the best I could get was 9:30 p.m.--too late for us. When we were passing the one at DD, we heard many people that had a PS and were waiting at least 2 hours. There were many unhappy, loud people! We went to the one at AK last year and we did have a PS and still waited well over an hour. Once seated, it was very slow service. It was a neat place but I wouldn't bother again.

If you choose the one in AK, I think you'll have to pay $8 to park unless you're an AP holder or staying at a Disney resort.

decour is cute food is not that good. small portions

Small portions??? :confused3 IMHO, the portions we've had are HUGE, whenever we go to RFC, we always leave with platefuls of food on the table because there was no way anyone could eat another bite. DH and I aren't big eaters, but we're not small eaters either. When we go next (in 16 days :cool1: ) we're planning on splitting one appetzer and one entree, so we hopefully don't waste as much food this time.

Made a reservation earlier today for the RFC at DTD for the 2nd week of May by calling them directly. Got the phone number from their website: http://www.rainforestcafe.com/vMain.asp#south. Here is the reservation info for both RFCs, copied from their web site. I opted to call their direct number (rather than WDW-DINE) and got right through.

For reservations at the DTD location:
For reservations, please call (407) 827-8500 or WDW-DINE. WDW-DINE reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. For groups of 15 or more, please call (407) 827-6453.

For reservations at the AK location:
We welcome groups of all sizes. For reservations, please call (407) WDW-DINE. WDW-DINE reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. For groups of 15 or more, please call (407) 827-6453.

We've always had a better time at the RFC at the AK. Just a matter of opinion. It doesn't seem to be as overrun as the one at DowntownDisney. We have eaten at both.
