When I booked my reservations through wdw, I used the name I go by which is Angie. When I called today to confirm everything, they said that since my legal name on my id is Angela, I will have a problem at the airport when I go to check in. Has anyone done this? Can wdw fix it? The airline claims they can't fix it and wdw is closed right now so I am calling in the morning but I am freaking out....

I used to work for an airline, so maybe this will help. If you have paper tickets, they may not be able to be changed. HOWEVER, call the airline directly tell them you have contacted WD who told you to call the airline directly. (Sometimes the airline will tell you to call the Travel Agent , WDW, and have them call, who then tells YOU to call the airline....) So state up front, the TA told me to call. Normally, if it's not a paper ticket they can speak with a supervisor and correct it. If not, have them make a notation in your reservation about the error. They should be able to type it in so the airport agents can see. Is it a mojor error or just something like Angie for Angela. Often, that is not a big of a deal as you think. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Oh yeah, and many airlines are open 24/7. Have you tried to call them already?

My husband's name is Robert but only ever uses ROB. His tickets are always booked under the name ROB.. He has never had a problem or been questioned ever. And he flies a lot.:thumbsup2

Yes, I called them because I was just going to add my mileage plus number so I could look it up online. That is how I found out that there would be a problem checking in. She said she checked with customer service and it can't be fixed so I should call wdw and they can request it be changed....

I think if it's an obvious nickname like Angie for Angela* you should be okay. I agree that you should call the airline, but I wouldn't freak out about it.

My dad accidentally booked the airline ticket for my brother Steven under the name Sreven. Typing too fast I guess! He called the airline (SW) and they fixed it, but they also said it would not have been a problem had it not been fixed. I've also had many MANY times when my last name was misspelled on tickets, and never been stopped. Most people don't even notice. My last name is a common one that usually ends in -son, but in our family it ends in -sen. Misspelling it happens so often, I don't even notice most of the time!

*ETA: If your name is Angela and you had booked it under Cookiebuns or some other weird nickname, I can see where that might be a problem.

I go by my middle name, and because my frequent flyer program lists just my middle name, all my airline tickets must use that name. So....the name on my ticket NEVER exactly matches my ID. I've never been stopped or questioned about this (I have more trouble with my health insurance, where my insurance is unders "S. Tamar", but my medical records are just under "Tamar").

We all use the short version of our name on our tickets instead of our legal name and we have never had a problem.

Myboss recently booked a ticket for a co-worker using "Frank" instead of "Francis." I called the airline and the lady laughed and says it happens all the time, and when it's an obvious and common nickname it's not a problem.

My first name is very unusually spelled. No matter how many times I spell it to the airline they always spell it the common way...even if it was written in front of them. I have never had a problem at the airport. I usually come with a whole army of documents and explaination but I have never needed any of them.

I've booked things under Bekki and my legal name is Rebecca. Never been a problem.

Legal name is Susan, always went by Sue. Never a problem.

Also, on my driver's license and my passport, my last name is hypenated but I always book my ticket with just my married name. Never been an issue.

I won't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry about it either. Last week at check-in my husband realized he left his license/id at home on the counter! Just to clarify "home" was 2 hours away from the airport. But they let him fly with a "special" boarding pass and what was supposed to be a special security check (which in reality was the same security check the rest of our family had with the addition of a light pat down). I was glad we were able to fly but it was somewhat unsettling to know that not much effort was put into the security process.
