Help!!!! I need advice need on Playstation/ Nintendo.........

I need some advice please. I promised my son I would get him Sony Playstation 2 for his birthday. So my questions are: Will they be putting out a Sony playstation 3 for Christmas (I always seem to be one step behind with technology)? If not, what package should I get? I see they offer different ones that come with different things. He just turned 14, but I don't want anything too violent game wise.
We have Nintendo 64 and I would like to get a new game for my 4 year old and one for my 10 year old (he is really into Star Wars). Any suggestions on some of the newer games?

I don't think they're coming out with PS3 as far as I know.

As for N64, there aren't any new games, they quit coming out with new games for it when the brought out Game Cube. As for any games that would be good for a 4 year old, MArio 64 would be perfect for him.

The PS3 won't be out for a couple years.

There are no new games for N64. Any Mario games are good. The 10 yo would probably like the Zelda games, too.

Thank goodness no Playstation 3 for a few years! I hate to spend the money and find out it's obsolete after 6 months!!!! So Nintendo 64 is now out dated? Would you advise that I get a new thing for the younger boys? I know the Sony Playstation is going to cause fights (you know, he won't let me play!!!!), and I need to come up with something for Christmas for them sooooo...... Is the next step logical? Sometimes I feel bad for my kids because they are usually the last to get the new stuff (and by then it's old!). Should I just get them a Play Staion too or one of the pther things? As you can see I am very confused. I can't even tell you what the difference is between all these games. Is it the grapics?

I bought my kids Game Cube a while ago, I just bought them the PS2 for Christmas. It just seems that there are more games for the PS.

My boys have a Game Cube and they love it. There are more games geared towards kids on the GC.

Buy both, cube & ps2, and get it over with... . It seems to be the thing us gamers do.

btw cube has a fantastic Star Wars game. Although I am terrible at it.

WE are going thru this same debate with my parenmts for my nephew as an XMas presant. What My Dh and I have decided is to get my Nephew the PS2 and a few games he is 7. I've heard and seen that the GC isvery pricy and advanced for the Younger set.
