Okay you might think I am insane but I do not know what to do.
Today my future DH asked me about my engagement ring and pretty much he wants me to give him an idea about what I want. The problem is I do not know what I want. Should I pick Yellow or White Gold? I am unsure what to do all of my jewlery is Yellow but does that matter? Please help me out so that I can give him an accurate answer.:(

When my DH was thinking of popping the big question, he was looking at rings I would really not care for.

(It is bizarre how different our choices are, we can't even drive anywhere on the same route! He turns left, I turn right! 12 years and counting though!)

I looked at some pictures in magazines and online and gave him pics of things I might like to wear if I were ever to wear the same ring for years n years n years. :bitelip:

On the subject of yellow or white, white actually turns to yellow over time. Mine is already starting to look a little "tarnished" Platinum is tres expensive, but won't turn color.

I don't think it matters if all your jewelery is yellow you can still have white gold. I mix all the time. I got white gold only because I think diamonds look great on white gold. If you want to see different diamond cuts I would go to Blue Nile to see which you prefer. You can also build a ring on there and then you can see if you like white or yellow gold better. You can also do this on adiamondisforever.com.

I hope that helps!!

I took my DF preliminary shopping just to look at rings and try them to see how they looked once I had an idea of what I liked we went from there.

If most of your jewelry is yellow gold and yellow gold is what you are most comfortable wearing, then stick to it. You will (hopefully) be wearing this ring everyday for the rest of your life so you want it to be something you are comfortable with in jeans or the dressiest of dresses. Yellow gold is timeless and classic so don't worry about trying to keep up with trends....white gold is in right now but soon it will phase back into yellow gold and the cycle will continue....just get what YOU like. Go window shopping with your future hubby and try on different styles. A lot of yellow gold wearers end up getting a yellow gold ring with platinum prongs because yellow gold prongs can make a diamond little a bit yellow, especially with warmer colors (lower than G-ish)...others love the yellow gold all the way around. No one can decide what you love but you!

For an idea of styles check out this thread: E-rings

and there is a sticky at the top of the forum about rings as well. HTH :thumbsup2

Oh - and I heard a rumor that if you have a Couture wedding they include the dress -- is this true?

My suggestion, go try rings on. They will look different on your hand than in pictures. You may find you like certain styles more than others and will probably quickly develop a preference for white or yellow gold.

Another thought (though I realize this isn't everyone's cup of tea), you could go shopping together to pick your ring. It's a lot of fun, and he knows that the ring you're wearing is one that makes your heart flutter every time you look at it.

I didn't insist on choosing my own, but I did have a heart to heart talk with him about wearing something I didn't like. People get funny about it, because of the sentimental value. But for something that costs THAT much, I think it's silly to not love it. Personal taste in style isn't wrong. If I ever bought him something that he didn't quite like, I would get it exchanged. Because the point of the gift is to make him happy, not satisfy my vanity about picking out the perfect thing. I really don't think this is any different. So he knew that I reserved full rights to change the ring he chose for a different style (not anything more expensive, just a style I liked). In the end we decided to choose it together as it just seemed easier. It took a little of the surprise out of the proposal (at that point I knew it was coming...) but three years later he still catches me gazing at the beautiful ring he bought. And he laughs that I still clean it every day.

Anyway, that was a long story. Whatever you decide to do, have fun! And then come tell us all about it!!!

Ok if you are not sure what you want then why not let him surprise you? I would just tell him what color god you want and let him do the rest.

Do you have any idea at all?? do you have a favorite diamond shape? Do you want something classic or trendy?

Start looking at some rings, try some on and see what you like.

Oh my thank you all so much for your help. It is very hard I like the white gold how it looks with Diamonds but I think the yellow would go with the rest of my jewlery and I also now am thinking he likes white gold so that is what is kicking me in the butt :rotfl: I feel if I get my ring yellow his is going to have to be yellow :headache: this is going to drive me nuts.. Once again I do thank you all for your help ...

Ok you are going to wear your rings for the rest of your life so go with what you are going to love forever :) Yeah I think it would drive me crazy too if I had white and Tim had yellow gold and vice versa.

You know you could get two toned gold lol, there you go,that solves it. JK.

I actually saw a couple tonight where the wife had a white gold/platinum ring and the husband had yellow gold. It didn't look strange at all. My DF wants to get a tungsten ring where as I will have a platinum set. I agree with the other girls and go try some on. Try one different cuts and colors and really get a feel for what you love. Have fun!

LOL :scared1: differant tones OUCH I think that would hurt my eyes :lmao:
I just want to be happy and have something pretty I can care less and he wont buy anything unless I say i like so that is an issue there too. I like round and princess cut diamonds but I really am not picky at all.

My fav are round and princess too...I have round,Tim picked it for me and I love it...it's classic...I took a test cause I was board one night and it said that solitaire is my shape:)

All my jewellry is yellow gold, but I know I want a white gold e-ring band :)

There is something about diamonds on white gold bands!!

I have always been a yellow gold person too. However, I knew that the setting I chose wouldn't look nearly as good in yellow gold, so I had the ering done in white gold and put a yellow gold band on each side. I have a two-tone diamond bracelet and my watch is now a two-tone. This way it all blends together! We even did my DH's band this way. The setting is yellow gold, but in the center where the diamonds are, we used white gold, so we match.
