Help!! I dont understand my points!!

I hope someone out there can help me out. Last March, we purchased 200points at the BWV. We got the 200 points banked from 2004 also so we techinically had 400 points, Back in oct we went and used 37 points and we have a vacation planned in july using 176points. When i called up to make a reservation for december the cast member told me it would take 46 points which i agreed too. At the end of the converstion she told me i have 177 points left for my 2005 use year and 154 points for 2006. Why couldnt they use the points i had left for 2005??? HELP!!!!

It sounds like your use year is between July and December. It looks like there are still 10 points unaccounted for:

Start:400
Oct: -37
July: -176
Should be 187 remaining in UY 2005. Those expire sometime after July, so you can't use them for December. You can bank them, but you haven't done that yet, so they are not available for bookings after the end of your use year. You probably don't want to bank them until the last minute, just in case you want to use them this use year.

Then you took 46 of your 2006 points for the December booking.

As noted, there are 10 points unaccounted for, was your first trip really 47 points? You will need to bank your remaining points then rebook your Dec trip. They will not just sub the points USUALLY. You need to get a handle on this issue as you could easily end up losing points with your current approach.

Well, not really, but it'll be the same thing, sort of. If you bank all 177 points (sure it isn't 187? or was one of the res # 10 points off?) they go into your 2006 use year.

So you'll have 333 points in your 2006 use year (156+177). HOWEVER, 177 of those are banked points, so you can't transfer them, you can't borrow them back into 2005 and you can't bank them again.

If you don't use all 177 between September 2006 and September 2007, you will loose them.

Note also, you need to bank by 2/28/06 to bank all 177. You can bank 100 of the points by 5/31, or 50 by 6/30.

Now once you bank them, your first new res in 2006 will come out of those points.

If you really want to use those points first, you could cancel your December res and then rebook it after banking the points. But you'd risk not being able to rebook.

Member Services might be able to do this for you (without risking loosing the res), so give them a call (but you'd have to bank at least enough points to cver the res).

Thanks guys...checked my old reservations and originally we had old key west at 37points but then boardwalk opened up and it went to 47 points. I think i will call tomorrow and see what they say. We were looking into doing a 4 day cruise but wasnt going to pay by points..maybe thats the way to go now though if im gonna bank the 177--thanks again!

One thing to know is, booking the cruise with points is very expensive. You are better off buying it outright. One option is renting your points and then using the money for a cruise. More bang for your buck that way.
