and we're checking into POFQ on 12/7. Doctor says
my recovery is 6-8 weeks. Am on crutches now, but
I may have to use a wheelchair. Does anyone know
how much Disney charges to rent one? Ugh...

Plan on the wheelchair. I would bring one with me or rent offsite. Can't tell you current cost because it has risen since I used one at Disney. Plus when I took one on my DCL cruise my provided didn't charge me as he was fixing my power wheelchair.

ten dollars a day, or $8 if you spring for the multi day pass. or rent from off site and have the WC with you at all times. the ones in the parks are ONLY good inside that park. in fact you cannot even take them over to the monorail or bus loading areas, they have others(sometimes) for that.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I would suggest you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Posts #2, 3 and 4 would probably be most useful to you.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

You may want to take along the phone numbers for some of the off-site places listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread. That would be helpful just in case you find you need one and it doesn't work out for you to rent in the parks.

I feel your pain. I ruptured my achilles tendon less than 7.5 weeks ago. We are leaving next week. I am still banned from any weight bearing on my leg. I was devastated about how this would affect our trip. Very depressed. I came to grips with needing assistance getting around. Since I have 2 little ones in a stroller I had to spring for an ECV since my hubby cannot push me and the little ones.

Just stay positive, do EXACTLY what the DR says, and realize that even if you cannot get around as well as you planned, you are still in Disney and that beats all.

Thanks for the encouragement...getting around is hard enough..let alone not being able to do anything, but I am following doctor's orders and really, really looking forward to this trip.
Sorry about your "accident" ... I hope your trip is wonderful and you are right..you are still in Disney!!

First let me say sorry to hear about your ankle . you might want to rent an ECV it more money but it a bit easyer than pushing yourself in the parks the hills are killers in the park LOL I hope you enjoy your trip.
